Entry door magnet.....why is it there??

Door latch has failed and I am in the process of taking my entry door apart on our 01 Monaco Executive. (crappy job to do!) In taking off the trim, I found a round magnet about 1"X2" installed at the bottom of the door with the magnet facing inside the door. I see no switches or reason the magnet is installed there. Anyone have any idea of its purpose. Just curious.

In the door frame there should be a corresponding plate with a reed switch in it. This tells the systems that need to know that the door is open or closed. Notably if the switch for the steps is on it tells the steps to extend or retract.

Interesting because I removed the magnet and the steps still go in and out with the door opening/closing.

By chance does your coach have a pneumatic door air seal? On mine there is a magnetic switch in the door frame for it.

There is another plate on frame side apparently with the switch in it. Surprisingly, the steps still operate normally with magnet removed. Door is not pneumatic. Guess the question is solved regarding the purpose of the magnet. Thanks all for the input.
