On my fourth door arm. Used the hammer and punch trick several times. They can say they don't understand why they are wearing out, but if they talked to a few Monaco owners and looked at their repair parts sales you would have to be blind to not see a problem. This is just BAD engineering.

Not exactly sure what your problem with the strut is but there have been several threads complaining about how hard it is to fix a strut that no longer holds the door open.
I had the same problem. Open the door so the strut is 90 degrees away from the mechanism. Clamp it at the pivot point with a vise grip. Then bend the arm down enough so when fully opened the door strut will lock.

Lee, Lock might be too strong of a word. There is a dimple in one of the swing arms and a corresponding recess in the other. Both a few inches back from the pivot point. When the door is fully opened these two mesh and if the tension is right they will "lock" the door open. Very strong winds - not likely!
Note the catch on the one which will prevent the door from swinging around to the windshield in any event - unless that arm is too bent.

Here is a picture of the swing arm. The dimple is at the joint. I took mine down and drilled a 1/8 inch hole through the center of the joint. Then centered the hole over a small opening in my vise jaws. Then used a center punch to expand the hole which put pressure on the joint. After that I installed a flush rivet to hold the expansion. It is working well for now. I had to drill out four rivets in the right part of the arm to remove it. The left part is held on with screws. I tried to adjust it by striking the center with a hammer on an anvil but that did not expand the joint at all. The swing are is available for about $20 online.

Ah ok I see what your saying about the dimple. I have only had my MH for a little over a year and I have never been able to "LOCK" it open. I have been afraid to take it beyond the point to "Lock" it. I'll have to check it next time I am with my MH. I may need to new one.
Thanks

I should have ordered it when it was showing less than $20. They must have found out how much Monaco wants for one. I repaired mine and it seems to be working well.

When you said $20 I went to their site and requested a price. It came back today @ $119.95... I am looking for the tinner rivets that is at the pivot point. I figure once I find them I will buy 10-20 and the tools to install them and still be less than the $120 for a new arm!

I agree that you would sure need some sort of reinforcing plate on both the body and door mounting postions. I treat our arm with "kid gloves" and do like DD mentioned. When it is super windy I either close the door or use a 5 inch vise grip on the arm.

I also have a gas strut on top of my door 2008 gas class A.... works fine no problems yet
