Entry Step Light

I recently replaced the bulb on the entry step light located directly under the step. Problem is I just noticed that it is wired to come on only when the step entry switch is in the position that makes the steps retract every time the door is closed. It seems it would be nice to have the light operational when the switch is set to allow the steps to stay out when parked. Don't like the step retracting every time you close the door, and the light is only operational in this position.
There is short extra black wire in the step controller box that activates the switch that is not connected to anything. Was wondering if it is possible that could be for connecting the light in a different manner?

Why don't you simply connect a light to the extra black wire and see?.....(or run a new wire)?

If you don't have shore power, you will soon have low batteries!

Leaves the light on all the time, that the step is out.

I left the step light on over night many times boondocking and the little 3 watt bulb never drained 4, 220 amp batteries. Or you could change them to LED's and never worry about it.

Entry Step Light

I connected the step light to the stair lights. So when I turned the switch on by the door, the step and stair lights all go on.
I also put in all LED lights

As wired by Safari, my "Kwikee under step light" and my "interior stairwell light" both illuminate when the switch is ON and the step is extended.
However, both lights are OFF when the step is up ... AND when the step is extended and the switch is OFF.

I was also hoping the light would just stay on when the porch light was activated. Alternatively, would be happy if it was activated by the step light switch and not the switch that makes the steps retract every time the door is closed. Not worried too much about the power drain as I already installed an led light there. I will try and connect in a different manner but just though someone may know what the extra wire was for in the step controller box before I experimented as it is shrink wrapped. Thanks for input.

Hook it to your porch light and the step light will come on when you turn your porch light on.

Our step lite comes on when the steps are down and whenever the door is opened. There also is a timer circuit that turns off the light, even if the door is left open. This sounds exactly like what you are trying to accomplish, maybe with some research you could determine if your controller could function this way. I have also added a lighted door handle assist to this circuit.

On mine the light follows the door (Door open light on, door closed light off) switch position matters not.

My stair is not working consistently. Open door no step action, replaced solenoid was working for a few days. Go today, open door nothing. I have a step light but no door action.
