I have a 94 Executive 40' 300 Cummins 8.3 C. that I've owned for just about 2 month, I purchased unit in TX and drove it back to OH, seller wasn't the owner and never drove it. I'm told this unit uses an air operated throttle system. When temperature drops down in the 20's I usually have to run the engine about 15 to 20 minutes before the throttle will engage. yesterday temp was in the middle teens and after an hourof idling and fast idling (using cruise control) I was never able to get foot throttle to operate even though all gages were in normal operating range. My gut feeling is ice in the system, but all other air operated systems seem to be fine.My next thought is to get a little "airbrake antifreeze" in the system, but not quite sure how to do that, system does have an air drier which is in the back near the engine, it does work when it warm, but not sure it's working now. Any ideas out there? I do understand diesel engines and airbrake systems (have Class A CDL)

If the idle is left at high while warming it up and not returned to normal before putting in gear there will be no response from the king control throttle petal...I dont know if its a Allison or Cummins control......it happened to me once too

Thanks for your reply, I would never attemp to select any gear at high idle. Main issue is no throttle response at anytime when pressing down on throttle peddle with engine running.

Ron,

I believe that you have water in your air system. Check your air tanks, primary tank should be just ahead of the rear axle, secondary tank should be just ahead of the front axle. Drain them. There should be NO water from them, particularly the secondary tank. If there is, your air dryer may need service. It should be on the passenger side of the engine, near the back of the engine, possibly beside the automatic transmission.

The other possible cause of moisture in the air system is if the coach has been sitting for an extended time, and there was some condensation accumulated in the lines and tanks.

I've had this problem, and the first indication was the throttle behaving exactly as you describe, plus sometimes you can have trouble with the air suspension system not working.

I don't know how long the coach sat before I purchased, and since I've gotten it back to OH the weather hasn't been suitable for going out and crawling under it. Right now we would assume it was a heat wave if the temp were to get up to freezing. But I have received a lot of tips and good info, right now just waiting for the snow to melt, started it yesterday at about 26 degrees and had no problem with the throttle.
