I thought I was smart getting the original factory authorized extended warranty transferred from original owner. But recently had the (now I know) infamous drive shaft failure (after 3 months and 3,200 miles post authorized service) with catastrophic damage at 18k total miles.

Warranty folks are denying claim based it failed due to lack of lube, service provider that has serviced since new with original owner says they lubed it must be bad part. Obvious to me that they are both pointing the finger away from themselves and at each other with the bill landing on me.

So that leads me to believe that pretty much all the "covered" item can be somehow be dismissed with "it's your service provider's fault" as pretty much all parts need some kind of service.

I now have my top of the line 10k psi grease gun and 550F grease ready and going to grease at the onset of every trip, which totally boggles my mind. It is only good fortune and St. Jude taking pity upon us allowing this to happen close to home.

So do I pretty much have a worthless document and now it seems to me no reason to renew when it expires.

Thoughts from the elders?

I am interested too in the opinion of all who would comment on this issue. We have a GoodSam extended service insurance plan. I do all my own lube, filter, oil changes and any other similar maintenance. Our coach in a 99 Discovery with 85M miles. No serious problems so far. Please comment.

JBdiscovery: Of all the extended service policies Good Sam is not only the most expensive they are the worst. The policy excludes anything that can go wrong. Full of loopholes. Typically no tmatter what your problem the response will be: Not Covered.

I believe that when we has an ESP with Good Sam the policy stated that if you did your own maintenance that you had to keep a record of it. I assumed that meant written records and receipts for things like oil & filter.

First read the policy. It's not fun reading but you will learn a lot. Second call and ask what to do. Get the persons name and write down what they said, the time and date.

We claimed two things. The fridge quit and they covered $2200 worth minus the $500 deductible. No questions asked. Second was the power awning. I assumed it was covered by the policy description on their web site since the MH was already in the shop for the fridge and the policy in it. Wrong, the coverage was $200 extra and not even offered to us when we bought the policy. They wouldn't budge on that. Oh well we got $1700 out of them for the fridge and the policy was $1300 or so. Did not renew it so we came out ahead.

Land Barge.....These companies pull this stuff and no one pursues them. Its extremely difficult for an insurance company to deny a claim. They like to make you think they can, but they rarely are able to. I worked closely with insurance companies on arson investigations. Even if I proved a case was an arson, they had to separately prove it to deny the claim. Now.....a lot of the extended warranties are not insurance companies and it falls under a different set of rules. In your case, I would take the case to small claims. It'll cost you about $50.00 - $100.00. They'll most likely not appear and you'll win by default. You'll have to pursue them again to make them pay, but more people need to do this to get these guys to start paying up.

Sorry you had such trouble. I don't know what policy the Monaco factory authorizes for extended warranties but I purchased the one offered when I bought my new Winnie and I've had an entirely different experience. The company is Easy Care and I've had at least six claims in four years with no questions asked. My contract is only four pages long and pretty easy to understand.

I agree with the advice to fight the sons a guns.

Thanks to all. I'm being somewhat discrete on purpose. I never have been a fan of people who just seem to company bash on an open forum with an obvious bias opinion.

Still strikes me as strange that such a large U joint would require so much attention in such a short period. I've been in heavy equipment maintenance all my adult life and I've never seen one require this much attention, but that's a whole 'nuther rant.
