Our owners manual says the 2002 40 Diplomat DST has a clear coat finish. But, since we bought this coach 8 months ago, I have HAND polished it 3 times and the rear cap, white sides and designs give off a lot of oxidation...seems like there is no clear coat !! The cargo doors and front cap hardly any oxidation. The coach is stored outside, unfortunately. If this is what I have to live with, we'll continue washing and polishing because we really like the coach. I am now researching electric buffers and polish/waxs to make life easier. Couple questions for you:

1) Have you had similiar oxidation problems with your rig? There shouln't be oxidation to speak of if the clear coat is holding up. What did you do?

2) What kind/make electric buffer did you find that works best? There are dozens of units to choose from. I've been doing it by hand.

3) What polish/wax products have worked for you ? I've been using Meguirar's Cleaner/Wax with good results although it only lasts a few months. It is easy to use, but, has no UV protective. Meguiar's have other products which I may try...have also been considering ProtectAll.

Thanks in advance to all...this is a great forum.
Paul

Have you see the thread on RV.NET on using RedMax Pro? Sounds like this product is exactly what you need.

Here is what I do on our 2001 Endeavor and it always is shinny. I use Mothers Carnauba cleaner wax (paste wax) once a year. It is applied by hand and buffed out with a Porter Cable variable speed Random Orbit Buffer. I try to wash the rig at least once a month, and every time we return from a trip regardless of when it was washed the last time. I use a product called Gel Gloss Heavy Duty RV Wash & Wax. It is a TR Industries product and I bought it at Camping World. I use 2 oz. per gallon of water and it really works great. I also use it on my cars and motorcycle. I also use this on the roof every other time I wash the rig and very seldom have black streaks and if I do they normally come right off when I wash the sides.

I’ve tried just about every wax out there and keep coming back to Mothers as my base wax.

Good luck in finding your combination.

By the way, my end caps also do not appear to have a clear coat on them but what I am doing keeps them looking real good.

Had the same problem with a '02 HH Endeavor. I think they did not clear coat the rear cap. I could never find a "wax" that would last over a couple of months.

Try RejeX. We can go for a year without reapplication but normally reapply fall/spring.

My opinion is, "wax" is not required on a clear coated coach. If you have full body paint you probably have a clear coat.

I don't use many carnuba based waxes anymore on my cars since they stated coming out with the synthetics. I do still use a car wash that has a LOT of carnuba in it between waxes. I use Meguiars #21 or 20 paint sealant which is like wax, only stands up better. It also works really nice over the graphics.
