Fan Controller

I have a 2006 Monaco Dynasty Diamond IV.

I recently went on a long trip, 5600 miles round trip. On the first part no problem. When we started our trip home the fan for the side radiator started running when not needed. About a thousand miles from home the fan just stayed on. It would increase and decease in speed in sync with the engine RPM. I read a recent post that sounds similar to the problem I am having. I have the electronic Danfoss controller. It looks like the best fix is to order the wax switch replacement kit from Source Eng. I wanted to see if anything else should be checked before replacing this part? Also will the fan still come on if I turn on the A/C?

Thanks

We have the same coach and we have had a few instances where the fan would go into high speed mode when warming up on an intermittent basis. I think if you do a search there is a couple of threads dealing with a way to diagnose if it is a terminal problem. If it is, my understanding is that is quite pricey to replace the Danfoss controller as compared to the Wax Valve from Source. Hope this may help, but I know I have read a couple of threads on the subject. Happy Trails Bert

Thanks, I did see a few things on this. I also checked and it appears the fan is turning on at 180 deg and staying on. When I unplug the controller the fan goes into high both when it's already running and before the temp reaches 180 deg. Once running it is not turning off. Still leaning toward the controller as the problem.

When my fan controll failed, I took it it cummins and had them verify the fan controll was getting the right info from the engines computer. (monaco suggested I do this) That checked out OK, so I installed the source engineering wax valve kit, now life is good again, (and quiet).....Bruce

Keep my fingers crossed that the problem is the 3 connectors that were melted together. I will replace them and road test the RV tomorrow.

I hope this helps someone. It was not the connectors. I replaced them with no change. When I wiggled the wires the fan would come on. Then I would wiggle the wires again and it would turn off. I found no breaks in the wires. I also dug as much of the rubber/foam sealant out of the back of the fan controller as I could. No corrosion or damaged electronics that I could see.

I replaced the electric fan controller with the wax valve kit from Source Eng. The kit was easy to install. Scott and Jim were very helpful answering the questions that I had.

My fan would turn on around 200 to 202 deg. This would drop the temp to 195 to 197. I always felt this was a little high. Now with the wax kit the fan turns on at 187 and drops it to 180.
