Just replaced my engine fan with one from Source Engineering. The noise reduction is dramatic. I used a DB meter and did a before and after test. The drop was 4-5 DB. My ears knew immediately the sound had dropped. I have a Cummins 400 ISL 08 engine pushing a 40 footer.

Acceleration has improved a bit and the noise level, not that it was much up front, going down the highway has dropped to about 0. I virtually cannot hear the engine now.

One other benefit is that I can hear my wife giving direction behind me now with my camera system. In the past the noise just wipes it out.

My fuel computer is showing an improvement in mileage but exactly how much is to be determined. It looks like at least .5mpg..

I am aware of the Horton two speed fan but this mod does not require any wiring or programming. Four bolts and you are good to go.

Well it took a while to discover I have a hidden panel in my closet and after taking the doors off and the bottom track off I was able to reach into the front and pull the fan up through the bedroom floor.

Ok, what mod next? Lighted entry handle, design trim kit for Safe T Plus.

YC1.....You guys just keep tempting me. This was the first photo of the fan blade I've seen. It's hard to tell from the photo, but are the mounts at the base of each blade flexible or twist in some fashion.

I was also really hesitant of loosing some cooling capacity since most of our trips leave one way or another through a desert. The blades are much more substantial than I imagined.

I have close to 5000 miles on my new fan, the noise reduction is great, and my average mileage has improved by about .4 or .5 MPG since the fan install. I do have more git go (acceleration), the only downside so far has been a slight reduction in engine braking (lost a 25 HP parasitic load from the old blade).

To me the mod was worth the cost.

The mounts are adjustable but come from the factory preset. The factory folks assure me it will be adequate cooling. I tow a 5K lb H3 and fully loaded run close to 40K lbs. I may be going over the Donnor Summit this weekend and that will give it a good workout. I just gave my wife a ride with the new fan and now she is noticing the wind noise from the entry door. Wish I had a solution to make it even more quiet. I had done some thing that helped but those hinges sticking out cause a lot of turbulance.

Don, what kind of access do you have to your fan? Mine was a stretch but knowing what I know now it should have taken me about two hours.

Now for the sway bars.

Just finished installation of the Source Fan, went really well excepting for the tightness of the bolts holding the old fan on the hub. The fan mountng bolts had a white compound on them, assume it was a locktite product. Had to use a 24" breaker bar and a DeWalt impact hammer, the rest was easy, it came out easy just twisting the fan to clear the hoses and mounting hardware in the engine compartment. Like everyone says the noise differance was dramatic. The new fan is about 2" smaller in diameter and the blade width is about 2" smaller. I'm going back on the road on December 1, and am looking forward to seeing any differance in temps. It is installed on a 2008 HR Ambassador, 38 PDQ. JC

Good morning, I have a ISC 360 Cummins, and I did it all from the inside of bedroom. Took out both panels in floor. As I said the hardest part was loosening the bolts holding the fan on the hub. A second person would help hold the fan from moving. I used a nylon strap to hold fan from moving. The pictures that are on IRV2 show everything....Good Luck...JC

On the Dyn there is a strip of that stick on flexible gutter material mounted from top to bottom to act as an air wedge over the hinges. IT WORKS...along with the inflatable seal. The seal may be hard/$$ to retrofit, but the air dam might help a lot and would be an easy mod.

YCI I purchased a "trim kit" from Henderson's RV for my Safe-T-Plus.

Add me to the list of "fans" of the Source fan. I received it last week and installed it in about 2 hours yesterday. My installation went very smoothly since I had a blueprint of exactly how to do it from YC1 and everyone else that went before me. I had the proper tools, help and instructions. I went through the floor hatches in the bedroom, muscled the fan bolts out (with a regular snap-on 1/2 ratchet and a 6 point 15mm socket), twisted out the fan through the hatch, (no cable or hose relocation necessary), installed the new fan (in the right direction) with blue loctite, and reassembled the hatches, closet track and doors. One of the easier mods I have made because of all the previous hard knocks that went before me.
My thanks go out to all of you that posted their experience in this and also to Source Engineering for a great product. My decrease at 5 feet from the back of the coach was a solid 5db of fan noise (with a meter). I will have to wait until April to test drive it, but I have high hopes based on what others here have said.
I also took the opportunity to reinforce the roller mounting on the sliding mirror doors with some 1" fender washers as I did see some slight bending around them, I guess from normal wear and tear.

Everything said above is TRUE concerning the Source FAN. HUGE difference in sound levels. That alone was worth doing it for. As for mileage........you would have to be running at high RPM to really notice any difference I think. deSanford

YCI you don't have to design a "trim" kit for the Safe-T-Plus as Hendersons already has a GREAT one. I have one and it does the job very well. Just toggle the switch and you now have a new trim. Great in HIGH winds or roads with a high crown. It beats getting down and readjusting the clamps. deSanford
