Fiber Glass Roof ripples or waves On HR Ambassador

We are thinking of buying a 2006 HR Ambassador PLQ. We are concerned about the roof. We have not seen other fiberglass roofs, so we are unsure if this one is normal. Service tech at Camping World tells us the roof is de-laminated and is shot, but they will replace it with EPDM for $5k. Another service tech says the ripples are normal from heating and contracting and not to be concerned with. The ripples seem to follow the roof trusses. Here is a picture. What do you think? If it needs replaced, should we go rubber?

Thanks
in advance for any suggestions

I personally would run away from the coach. There has to be an underlying reason for the delaminatioin and I don't believe Camping World has the technical staff to fix it properly! Now, if they would pay for it and send it back to Monaco to fix then that might be a different story!

Also take a close look at where the roof rounds down to the side walls... the clear coat is starting to seperate from the base coat of paint. That will continue like cancer on down the sides unless it is fixed.

Take a look at it when it heats up to see if the tech is telling the truth. Also, I would call Monaco and verify his story if it is a clean coach and a good price. Please let us know your findings.

I had a 06 Endeavor that the roof was starting to do that. Every time I was up on the roof I had an ill feeling. Water would pool in the low area. As far as I am concern, a that looks like that............run as fast as you can.
I have seen pics here on the forum that looked even worst.

Don't own a Monaco, but my Tiffin has a fiberglass roof. What you see in the image is not normal under any circumstance IMHO. My roof is 8 years old and has no ripples, bulges or bumps. Run, don't walk!

I actually had frost on my roof the last 2 days and climbed up and took a look and I do not have any ripples on my 2007 Diplomat roof. So I would agree with the other guys and look at a different coach.

That roof needs to be looked at by a fiberglass person/ Its probably fixable. Who ever told you to put on a rubber roof should be shot! Run from that guy and never go back. The roof on my monaco is a little loose in places but it causes no problems at all.

The coach is priced right, has the right floor plan, but seems to have issues to match the price. We have to decide if the price justifies the potential issues.

We are looking for a coach with desk seating behind the bedroom, and room for a desk up front. This PLQ seemed to have it all. Does anyone know of alternate coaches with a similar floor plan? Would be good information should we decide to pass this one up. No idea what to type in Google search to see all the floor plans available.

Thanks again for all your comments, this is a great forum.

My Coach with the fiberglass top does the same thing depending on temperature and I think more importantly humidity. While on the gulf coast in Texas during the winter, at times it will wrinkle (wave as you put it) quite abit. But wait a few days and it will be just fine. We spend the summer's in Colorado and I specifically check it from time to time and all the "wave's" are gone and it's nice and flat. So I too, think it's normal. You get a single piece of smoothe fiber glass that big and I think it's going to happen. Maybe it shouldn't but it does, either way it doesn't seem to hurt anything.

Fiberglass expands and contracts like everything else ... and if it was originally installed in Cold winter months ,it will expand significantly in the summer , much like the Aluminum siding on Cargo trailers ... Installed in the summer heat , when fully expanded , will likely never wrinkle/wave... only get tighter in the winter ... Check your build date !!!

I have a Knight PLQ for the reasons you state. We have looked at a ton of other coaches, and are always happy with our floorplan.

You will find this floorplan in four coaches with four slides - Monaco Knight and Camelot (42 foot), and HR Scepter (42 foot) and Ambassador.

Recently saw a 2007 Camelot 42PLQ for sale in Texas. Probably the only other coach I would move to at the current time. Love my office!

dpan; if you go to www.monaco.com and look under archive you can look up all the past floor plans.
I noticed that some of the coaches with rear sitting areas do not have a wardrobe/closet as fulltimers this would be hard to deal with but each of us has our likes and dislikes, to each his own.
We like not having the W/D in the bedroom, more closet space and eventhough we have a very small kitchen counter the wife prefers it because we have one of the largest pantrys in the kitchen plus room over the W/D for more.
