Final Charge OAT Coolant

Is anyone using Final Charge? (Probably a dumb question)
How hard is it to change to and where do you get rid of all that coolant?

If I remember correctly the OAT antifreeze doesn't have to be changed. After the third year you just add extender and your good to go. Give Fleetguard a call and they can give current info. As I also recall they were coming out with test strips to determine how much extender to add. This is not to be confused with the other test strips used in the other type antifreeze.

I changed over to Final Charge three years ago. I drained it into a large plastic party bucket (the type that people throw ice and soda in and has two rope handles). I was careful with collecting the initial drain, but didn't worry about clollecting the fresh water flush. I put as much as I could of the original fluid into the Final Charge containers and then used an old 5 gallon gas can. My local dump has a hazardous day once a month and I disposed of the old coolant there.

The only issue I had with Final Charge was trying to find a couple of gallons of concentrate. I refilled the coach with 50/50 mix Final Charge from Pep Boys, but could not locate any concentrate. If you do the math, you can refill the system with 50/50 mix, but you need to add a couple gallons of concentrate to end up with a 50/50 mix.

Napa would order it, but I had to buy a case. I emailed Final Charge a couple of times and told them how ridiculous it was that I couldn't buy concentrate anywhere in Los Angeles County. They sent me two cases!

My coach runs cooler on the OAT coolant and it isn't critical to have the system pressurized with OAT coolant. With the change of coolant, I run 180 -185 degrees per my VMSpc all the time.

I drained my old coolant. Bottled it up and took it to county haz. mat location. I then flushed the system a couple of time using regular city water. I then bough enough distilled water for a final flush. I bought my concentrate at NAPA and mixed with distilled water for the final fill. When I did my first drain, I made sure I knew how much came out. I then did the math to figure out how much concentrate to put in before I went to the 50/50 mix (used distilled water). I think it is recommended that you mix the concentrate before adding to the coolant system. I did this one gal at a time until I put the original amount back in. Run it for a while and recheck level as you will be getting some air out. Also a good time to change out your thermostat and radiator cap if you are going on 7 yrs. old.

I chaned mine also and used ES Optimax that I got a Cummins. No testing just add a charger in 3 years. Fleetguard changed the name to ES Optimax is what they told me. I added 1 gallon of 100% ad the rest 50-50 after reading how Diplomat Don did his.

Has anyone found the extender? I changed to Final Charge about the same time Don did and am due for it in July. I can't remeber how much I need but it seems like a quart. Also, after adding the extender we are good for another 3 years, right? Then do we start all over with a complete change and flush?

I've had about the same results as Don, running about 180 to 185 most of the time, also according to my VMSpc.

I will be chaned mine coolant in my 2006 endeavor 400 isl to final charge. How much do i need to get. 4-5 gal concentrate? 5-6 gal 50/50?

src -- I`ve done 2 Camelots with side radiators - Each took 2 gallons concentrate, & almost 7 gallons of 50-50 -- It will take a lot of flushing to get all the green stuff out -- Bill Willard

So with all the flushing involved I'm trying to figure out if I can do this in the RV Park I'm in, or do I want to have it done with my annual maintenance at the truck shop? How many of you are full-timers that have done this switch to OAT coolant?

Hi jeepsrule, I changed to Final Charge 3 years ago. I flushed about 90 gallons of water through the system before I got the green stuff out. Final Charge will need to be changed after 6 years. Consider making the change at the time you do the annual maintenance.

Here is some info I have collected for my 2005 dynasty. You should have the information in your chassis manual. If not, call monaco and cummins anytime you are not sure. Also, you will have some residual flush water left when you are ready to add the concentrate. I got most of my info from Diplomat Don on the original change. Check his posts for complete information.
