Fixing "sticky" slide (from the inside)

So, we've got a "sticky" slide, but it's all happening inside the MH. The rubber lining at the very top of the slide (inside) has come loose and the slide "sticks" to leftover glue on the rim. I tried to fix the problem by buying a new rubber lining at Home Depot. Either it wasn't the right kind of lining, or I didn't do a good enough job of cleaning/installing because the darn thing just came right off again when the slide was used....and it's still "sticky".

So...my questions....
1/ Where do a buy the right "rubber lining" for the top (*inside* the MH)?
2/ How do I properly clean off the "old" glue before installing the new lining

We've got a 2008 Holiday Rambler Endevor 40PDQ (4-slide)

I can relate Nina. I replaced the carpet in my Winnie with Allure and had to remove the glue they used to secure the carpet under the slides to stop them from sticking to it when retracted. I don't know where they get that stuff but it is the most aggressive glue I've ever seen.

After many hours and scraped knuckles I did it using Goo Gone and even WD40 on a rag. Lots of rubbing and replacing the rag. No fun.

Good luck...

Cheers for the replies! I'll have to figure out what kind of gasket I have, but looks like that's the right spot to buy them.

One of my slides must have the same issue. It took a lot of force to close it last time out and the upper wall suddenly "popped" on the inside as the slide broke free from the wall. I'll have to check it out. If you find the right seal, please post it up.

I have an 07 Camelot PDQ and it does the same thing. I have found that as it rises up the ramps coming in the top of the slide flange is hitting the weather stripping that is attached to the coach in each corner of the opening. I have tried to fix it by adjusting the slide. I called Monaco and they recommended trimming the flange a bit so it would clear the weather stripping. This will be my next step. It sounds like I am not the only one with this problem.

That's exactly what ours does...that very same stick and then 'popping'as it finally comes loose. Scares me everytime!

I'm going to try and figure out the trim next week and will report back.

I use this a few times a year, sometimes once a month if there is alot of rain:

Protect All Slide Out Rubber Seal Treatment

I ran into problems with the sticking plus it was causing the slide to come in crooked and the lube above solved the problem.

Just want to give everyone an update on this. We still haven't replaced the internal rubber, but we've managed to rig a temporary fix until we get to the next big city (may be a while). I trimmed the edges and then used some hitch grease and talcum powder....that did the trick and at least stopped the "internal stick".

Now...onto the next problem...

WheelingIt,

When you say you "trimmed" the edges, exactly what are you trimming? I guess I don't quite get the picture of where it is (or was) sticking. I think I might be having a bit of a similar problem on our PDQ.

Buy a can of acetone and it will remove all the old glue residue. Caution, have a fan and open windows, it evaporates quickly but does have a smell for a minute. Buy it in the paint department.

I have trimmed the edge of the flange that can be seen if you stand on a ladder and lift up the rubber flap that runs along the outside top of the slide. Its about 2 inches high. Mine was binding in the corners. I trimmed the corners and it solved the problem.

Yes what zman62 said. I trimmed the edge I could see on the 2 side corners since it seems to be there it was sticking the most (it was starting to peel off there). So basically I lifted a few inches of the rubber lining from each side corner and cut it off. This is all done from inside the coach while the slide is in. Then grease and lots of talcum powder. Can't say it's perfect but it's definitely helped.

I had the same problem and it scared the hell out of me when it happened. I used LOCKTITE STICK'N SEAL Outdoor Adhesive found in Lowes. Its holding up very well. Be sure to clean up the weather stripping of any glue left on the outside of the weatherstrip so it doesn't stick and pull off again when opened.
