Flat Tow Advice

Thanks for the input, the coach is already set up with proportional braking from the coach's air brakes. From your responses it looks like the F150 is a go.

I tow a 2014 F150 platinum super crew 4x4 with my 42' Camelot. I also have the 400 Cummins. I just weighed my truck at a CAT scale. 6220 lbs. Heavier than I thought. I have the air force one system and really like it.
It's a little slow up hill but sure is a great ride when we get where we are going !!!

Thumbs up 2005 Chevrolet Suburban

I agree with everyone. I have a 2008 Monaco Diplomat 40SKQ with a 400 ISL and Allison transmission. I tow a Chev Suburban. Lowers MPG a bit, slower going up hills, faster coming down hills(need to brake a little more often) I use M & G air brakes, -- long story short -- one of the reasons I bought the Diesel pusher was because I had a Suburban and wanted to be able to tow the heavier vehicle. I am getting used to the idea of slowing at the top of steep grades - using my exhaust brake and down shifting - and an occasional braking to keep my speed down as I go down steep grades. I am coming to understand that it all depends on what you want and are able to tolerate. I am learning that more and more as I read comments on irv2.com
Good luck with your decisions.

I towed a Silverado HD curb weight 7800 lbs with an ISL Diplomat and had no issues at all. Currently tow an Equinox.

Similar but different scenario here. I have a Dynasty that weighs right @ 36k pounds and flat tow my Jeep that is heavy as hell, just under 6k pounds. I also towed a 26' enclosed trailer with our Harley and Jeep weighing 12.5k. It handles the weight well as will your Diplomat. Your Diplomat should be rated to pull 10k pounds and I have the same ISL/Allison engine/trans but my Dynasty has a 4.78:1 gear ratio vs. your Diplomat that will have a 4.30:1 so a few hundred less RPM at cruising speed and pulling the grades.

All in all you should be fine hauling your F150, just don't skimp on a tow bar setup and auxiliary braking.

Mike.
