Sunday, as I was trying to fix a broken door awning, I had a whoops. Using a foldup 7 foot ladder, I had gotten from Camping World( the kind of ladder that opens up into a folding ladder, but closes to a 7 foot x 5 inch bundle). Usually my wife hold the ladder, cause I do not trust it. Anyway, she was inside running the extend/retract switch. As I reached the rear end cap and popped it off, and streched my head up to look at the gear, the ladder decided to head for the border. I landed on my side, knocked the wind out of me, and 911ed to get me help. Many bruises, and a squished L1 vert.
Needless to say, my fault but put absolutly no faith in a fold up ladder. I spent over a $100 for this death trap. My fault, but buy as sturdy a ladder as you can fine, even if you hang it outside, on the roof ladder, I got this one for a neater appearence, and it stored easily. To easy to get hurt, when you get up in age, and don't have the reflexes you use to have.
So be careful out there. The healing slowly Muffin Man.

Glad you are ok, and did not break anything. I have a seven ft step ladder from lowes and have been able to do all I need with it. I had looked at the CW ladder but I am 250 lbs and said no way. The lowes ladder is rated for 325. I can fit it in my bay. I lay it in side down and it locks uner the frame rail.

I looked at that ladder at CW but decided to get a "Little Giant Ladder". It has a 300# rating and will extend to 15'. It also makes a 7' step ladder. It is very sturdy and fits in one of the storage bays when folded up. I got it at Cosco for about $160 and it came with the step that hangs on it. I am way to old to bounce now, all I do is splattttt. And that hurts a lot.
Get well soon...

Dave

I have the same ladder and although I love the way it stores I have to agree it is not the most sturdy ladder around. The other down side I have read about is how easy it is to try to cut off a finger when collapsing the ladder for storage. Be careful out there.

Sorry you got hurt, wish you a speedy recovery. Ladders are very dangerous.

I have the Chinese version of the Little Giant, got it at wall mart. I agree the ladders with legs that flair out at the bottom are much more stable.

I carry a six foot orange aluminum & fiberglass 300 lb rated step ladder. All the other fold-ups that I have seen have had a 225 lb rating on them. Even if I did weigh 225 lbs (when I was 22 years old maybe), I wouldn't trust one. I guess they're ok for the "lighter" crowd. I had one of the three step folding stools, the kind with the large top step. After using it and noticing some creaking and groaning (the ladder not me although I do creak & groan at times), I read that label and it was also rated 225 lbs. Now the DW uses it and I stay off.

I just purchased a "Extend A Step" telescoping ladder. I seems sturdy enough and extends to 12'. I retracts to about a 30" by 20" by 4" package that is very easy to store. Has anyone had any experience this type of ladder?
