SPA48.

Is the compressor actually running or is it just humming?

If it's humming, this would indicate a "locked rotor" condition and you can install a "Hard Starting Kit", this will give your compressor a boost every time it starts.

Henry.

Thanks Henry for the quick reply!!! The A/C is actually running and producing cold air for those few seconds. I don't know what a locked rotor is or the hard starting kit is but i will be looking it up!!!!

Thanks again

The compressor is tipping on the overload.
The overload is like a circut breaker but self resetting.
If the compressor is drawing to much wattage (amps) it will trip out on the overload, in a short time resets and the compressor will try to run again. Bad bearings, shorted windings and low voltage are the most common cause. Need a good volt/ohm/amp meter to check out or a good tech.
Hard start kits, they work best were the voltage is low 104 to 110.
Some unit have a pressure switch to stop the compessor from running when the Freon low.

I had a similar problem with one a/c a month ago. There's 2 capacitors, a start capacitor and a run capacitor. The run capacitor had to be replaced.
The start capicitor turns on for approx 10 seconds then its the run capacitor that keeps the a/c going.

They are on the roof. Remove the A/C cover then on the curb side you will see a wires entering a metal box. Remove the metal cover the caps are inside.

Be sure to remove all power and short the capacitor out before touching the wires, it will knock the wine out of you.

The hard start kit usually consists of a larger than normal capacitor. The normal size cap may have just failed and need replaced. A voltage surge can take them out pretty easily. If you do not already have one you might consider a surge protector for your coach.

Just in case this is not the capacitor. I have had a similar problem with my rear unit after it runs for a few hours in very hot humid weather. The evaporator will freeze up and produce the symptoms you describe. Setting the fan speed on manual high prevents this from happening. Hope that helps.

I want to thank everyone again for there input---After my curiosity was killing me about my a/C problem I went up on top of my roof while the unit was running (compressor off and on) after getting the lid off I could see that the resistors on the capacitors were burnt and starting to show there flame!!!!! GOOD IDEA ABOUT CHECKING ON THE ROOF!!!! It started right in front of me so I Ran down to my outside power plug in and pulled the 220 line. Now all i have to do is buy some more parts!!!!! Question I still have is---Does the hard start kit replace both capacitors OR Just one????
and when you buy new capacitor does it come with the resistor????

Thanks again

SPA48.

The hard start kit consists of a capacitor and wiring which you place in parrallel with the start capacitor.
The run cap is there to keep the compressor running.
