Front Mask replacement

While watching a NASCAR race last sunday I noticed the "tearoffs" used to keep the windshield clear. I have also seen motorhomes being delivered that have some kind of material on the nose to protect it. I then thought of the front mask on my HR that is actually molding let alone cracking. Has anyone explored using the tearoff material rather than paying a bunch to have the original mask replaced? If the original mask can be removed without damaging the paint why not use the tearoff material as a replacement, if not just for when you're in transit from point a to b?
Just a thought,
Ron

I was fishing around to see if anyone has actually used other material for a mask other than the really expensive kind. A few looks but no comments means no one has tried it or there is no interest or they are all running to the patent office with my idea!

I was slow, there was about 40 RVs with ugly front caps in the patent office parking lot! Have you thought about an old fashion Bra? My 3M shield is messed up. Mold growing behind it. I have a Bra on it. Seems less expensive than taking the old off and replacing it with something that will only get moldy again in a few years. Good luck.

That's a good idea but I'd remove the old moldy stuff first. My shield has mold and rock strikes that have actually torn the plastic.

You can buy rolls of clear film for paint protection. I just saw some on ebay for $10 for a 12x48 in roll. 3M even makes a spray on film.

Looks like this kind of just stopped but did anyone try the 3M film? Sounds like a good idea.

I realize the front bra provides the best protection from rock strikes, but, I just dont like the look!

I think it looks kind of cool, but it looks even cooler when I think of the 1200 dollars or 24 hours work it would take me to get it off.

That's a bit of an exaggeration. It only took me about about 23 1/2 hours. But well worth the effort.
