front television

2005 Windsor, has an older tv not hd so it needs an converter box, has anyone changed this out if so what tv did you go back with? It seems that all the new tvs have rear speakers and I don't know how the sound would get out.

Don't you have factory surround sound. In our 2003 Windsor, we replaced both tv's with Samsung flatscreens. Have puts if you need them

I've change out many old CRTs and replaced with flat screen LEDs. They are very lightweight and use very little energy. I've never placed a new TV in the old 'hole' due to the width of the new TVs, so rear speakers are not an issue.

Most TVs have an audio output (but make sure!) and you can get a sound bar from many stores that sell TVs that will give you excellent sound. Just mount the bar above the TV.

Since I can't seem to saw a straight cut here is my solution.

Remove the old tube type TV. It was mounted to in a square tube steel structure covered by the surround fascia. Coped in a piece of 5/8 finished plywood that I painted flat black.

Found a flat screen TV that fit well inside the fascia. Mounted the TV to the plywood and remounted the fascia. Made a reasonable shadow box effect. Only drawback is its only a 29 inch TV (if my memory is correct) but it is bigger than the old tube type.

I will try to attach a picture to let you see the effect.

Good Luck

I also went with a sound bar. A Polk sound bar with a Bluetooth subwoofer.

There are also optical to 5.1 decoders that you can then feed into an amplifier/speaker system if you have one in your rig.

Nice job!

I did very similar I located a Smart LED TV to size for the opening and using a front mounted speaker and also audio out in the rear for surround sound.

I used black Lexan to frame it ( cheap cut to size on line ) and then mounted the black Lexan with velcro for ease of access in the future. Do not block the remote sensor on the TV with wood when mounting ( ask me how I know LOL)
