We have an 08 HR Neptune 37 PDQ. It has 2 seperate furnaces and the one under the kitchen sink in the main living area will start and run fine but after a little while the burner will go out. The blower will continue to operate and then after a couple minutes the burner will relight itself. I'm getting good heat from it but I've never had a furnace do this. After the coach reaches the set temp. it shuts off as normal The one in the bedroom runs normal after the burner shuts down the fan will run for a couple minutes then shut off. I just don't understand the burner going off and on like this. Has anyone else experienced this? Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks

It sounds like a classic flame sensor not working. Try cleaning it lightly with emory cloth, if that does not resolve the issue get a new flame sensor.
If the flame sensor does not detect a flame in a few seconds after ignition it shuts down the furnace as a safety measure.
Also check the connections of the sensor to the controls, that could keep it from working also.

The front furnace in my 04 Cheetah has been cycling like you describe since it was new...I always felt that this was normal and most likely keeps the flame chamber from overheating.

You might want to check that all the vents in the front of your coach are un-obstructed.
I have this same problem with my '02 endeavor whenever the throw rugs get shifted around and cover two of the floor vents. It reduces the air flow through the furnace enough that it overheats, shuts down the burner, cools off, relights the burner, overheats again, .... I hear it happening, go move a throw rug to expose the vent under it, and all is well again.

Found this response: The RV rooftop mounted A/C unit short cycles and - FixYa
When you say it is short cycling, if it is just the compressor turning on and of, the internal overloads in the compressor could be opening and closing because they are overheating (the compressor will be extremely hot to the touch). This could be due to something as easy as the condenser coil being dirty (good chance if not cleaned since 2002) or there is an internal malfunction (mechanical break) in the compressor, causing a need for a new compressor. If the compressor did fail, make sure you find out why, there is always a reason, something else wrong in the system causing the failure. If this is not the problem let me know.
Thank you..

I think Cliff has it right, the heat exchanger would be very overheated if the flame was not managed. I talked to a Monaco tech and an RV tech and both confirmed the flame is managed by a thermostat on the heat exchanger and cycling is common and normal.

Cycling is normal, but short cycling is not. There are various potential problems that can cause this. e.g. there is a "sail switch" that has to be installed & working correctly to allow the burner to continue to run; so called because a piece of sheet metal acts as a sail in the air path to sense proper air movement. Plugging of vents would restrict air flow and keep the "sail" from flying properly causing a shut down; there are other possible sensor related troubles that can cause short cycling.
What you need is a complete diagnosis. Some mobile tech's specialize in appliances, and some "trailer supply" places have appliances tech's on staff or on call; Colorado River RV Technician is one in the Lake Havasu area, 928-505-7750 and they have common circuit boards and parts in stock. IIWM, and all vents appear clear, I'd shop around in your area and find somebody who works on furnaces regularly to check it out.

The heat pump and furnace are actually separate systems.
If both the furnace and heat pump are short cycling, I would look to the thermostat. The placement of the thermostat is important.
Is this happening in the front or the rear or both??
Is your thermostat mounted on an outside wall??
Is the thermostat actually located in the "helmet" or has it slipped back into the wall where it is not sensing inside temp??
Is the thermostat wire actually hooked to the Heat Pump??
Just some things to check.....
Good to see you over here!!!!!!!!!!!

We rarely use the propane furnace, except for our yearly trip to Yosemite. Ours has always cycled the burner on and off. In 15-20 minutes of run time the burner will usually cycle on and off three times. I've checked everything and this appears to be normal.
