I know this was discussed a while back, but to no resolve.
What is the best gas grill to plumb into the LP tank on the coach?
Been looking at Weber Q200, but I have read that there is an issue with the regulator on the tank and the regulator on the grill effecting the pressure.
Any help?
Thanks,
PR

The only way to use a grill that has a regulator is to put in a tee off of your lp tank before your coach regulator. Camping World and other places sell all you need to do it.

I don't know where you got that info.. but someone didn't do something right... Alan1 is correct, the extend-a-stay or other tee must be before the coach's regulator and then there is no interference ... I use my Weber "Q" all the time..

Depending on where the Main LP tank regulator is located using a Extend a Stay may not be so great. If the regulator is on the driver side and you want to use the grill on the passenger side you will need a long hose to reach under the coach. Remember this will be high pressure LP so you need to be carful. In other threads people have recommended disconnecting the hose while travelling. If you RV is plumbed with a black iron pipe going from the LP tank to the passenger side of the coach that pipe only supplies low presure LP. If that is what you want to use to run your grill then you will need a grill with a removal regulator. I have a weber baby Q and on it you can remove the regulator I am not sure about newer of other models of the Q.

That is my point. The "t" is after the regulator on th main tank.

ITDAVE--How do you adjust the size of the flame on your Q grill without the adjustable valve on the grill regulator?

On my grill the adjustment knob is not part of the regulator. I just looked at pictures of the grills on line and at least until you get the 300 series you can see that the adjustment knob is not part of the regulator. Go to a store like Home Depot or Lowes and check the webers out.

Rick Long:

This is a Monaco Forum and Monaco installed a connection to attach a BBQ. But the engineers did not think before they designed the plumbing.Your Bounder is plumbed properly!! On many Monacos the regulator is in the driver's side and that connection is after the regulator. It should be before the regulator!! Yes, you can install one of those quick connectors before the regulator but it does require some additional plumbing. You also would need a really long hose to go to the passenger side. I dont believe that a permanent flex hose meets any codes. One could run an iron pipe across but this is the type of work that should be done by a licensed person. I wonder if the new Monacos are piped the same way?

My Camelot is a 2009. The "t" is after the regulator on the tank on the curb side, mounted on the wall of the bay. Very accessible. Seems like there would be a grill available that does not have a built in regulator like an appliance in the coach.

I contacted Bob Presson at the Monaco tech hot line and he gave me the answer to a low pressure gas grill. I ordered one on Amazon for $189.
Thanks for your input.

Highlights Hands-On: Camco Olympian RV 5500 Stainless Steel Gas Grill Dave Riggs MotorHome, October 2009

I can't think of an outdoor accessory that's more apropos to RVing than a barbecue. The market is flooded with all kinds of grills in various sizes and configurations, but Camco's Olympian RV 5500 Stainless Steel Gas Grill is a cut above most of the available portable products.

Advertisement:
The Olympian grill has that clean styling of a high-end product many barbecue aficionados appreciate, and its performance is equal to its good looks. Measuring 21.5 x 13.25 x 8.25 inches, the top hinges open exposing a grill that has a 180-square-inch cooking surface. That's large enough to easily prepare meals that will feed four — and maybe six if you don't overload the grill with side dishes such as vegetables. A patented smoker plate enhances flavor without the hassle of grease fires, although very fatty meats will still create some flare-ups. Grease drippings are routed to a sliding tray, easily removable for cleaning, underneath the barbecue. Lining this grease trap with heavy-duty aluminum foil facilitates easy cleanup.

A versatile mounting bracket is used to position the barbecue on a table or the ground, in areas where using picnic tables is prohibited. The same bracket can be mounted to the side wall of the motorhome using an optional rail that sells for around $8. Since the barbecue is pretty weighty, it's recommended that the rail be installed by a professional, who can attach it to a solid surface. That's a convenient option, especially if your rig is equipped with a low-pressure, quick connection to the LP-gas system. A short hose with quick connectors is provided with the barbecue, and longer hoses are available from Camping World and other RV supply stores.

If your motorhome is not equipped with a low-pressure connection, you'll have to get the adapter kit ($30) for using throwaway cylinders, which is what we did. The kit includes the regulator and even a plastic base for stabilizing the cylinder. You can also get a kit ($32) that connects to larger cylinders with the standard Acme fitting.

Assembling the barbecue is relatively simple, following easy to understand instructions. The only difficulty was dealing with the fragile gasket that goes between the control valve and the body of the grill. Getting the spark igniter gapped properly takes some patience.

The RV 5500 grill is a pleasure to use, has a temperature gauge built into the lid, and provides even heat all across the cooking surface. Its 12,000 BTU burner gets the temperature up in a hurry and the flame is very controllable.

To protect the barbecue between uses, we put it in Olympian's Grill Storage Bag, which is just the right size to store the barbecue, adapter kit and long-handle cleaning brush. The barbecue sells for around $250, but at press time it was available at Camping World for $199 (President's Club price). The bag sells for less than $20.

Promine:

I think all of the Monaco products have the T on the curb side and are after the regulator. That is indeed a nice BBQ but one should not be limited to the 2 or 3 BBQ's on the market with a remote regulator that can be removed. If more than 90% of the BBQ's have a built in Regulator then Monaco should have designed the T to be BEFORE the regulator. I already have a nice stainless suitcase BBQ and it cannot easily be used. I have resorted to carrying a 7 lb. portable tank. Bad engineering by Monaco.

Got my Olympian 5500 today. Nice unit and plums right into my low pressure LP system. I agree with Moisheh it could have been planed out better so you have more choices, but we didn't have a BBQ anyway and the Olympian is a nice piece.
Thanks for your input.

Yes there have been many discussions and no resolution.

The reason for this is simple.. There is no single best gas grill

But before I explain that I'll answer your other question

If you are using the Marshall Brass "Extend-a-flow" on a trailer or "Extend-a-stay" on a motor home.. Or a competitor's equivlant. Then the regulator on the grill is the controlling regulator.. Same as if you use it with a luggable bottle of gas.. THe hose carries full tank pressure.

NOW: if you have a Gas Grill fitting on the low-pressure side of your regulator as many trailers do.. You need the matching grill for that trailer.. Sorry. but I don't like those.

Back to "Which grill is best"

There are many which are all very good... Holland, Webber, Coleman, THermos and more... Get one you like. and use it. NONE are best for everyone.. I really like my Coleman as it folds easily and stores nicely in a space I reserved for it.

I suspect a THermous would do the same

And the Webber, Holland and more.. Just I might need to pick a different storage space depending on the brand.

So: My advice: Figure out where you can store it on the RV.. Find one you like. and if it fits.. Buy it.... .That's what I did.
