Gas strut for door with rain gutter above?

I'm ready to get rid of my scissors arm at the top of the door and install a gas strut. My MH has a flat rain gutter over the door. I say a post somewhere from someone who had this situation and maybe drilled a hole in the rain gutter for the ball to stick through. I can't find it now. Can anyone direct me to that post? Thanks!
