Gen-Turi

I want to order stuff to install a Gen-Turi for my 2005 Monaco Diplomat 40PDQ with an 8 KW generator. My coach is not accessible for a while. Can anyone tell me if I need a special exhaust adapter or the 18” extension for the top? Any installation tip would also be appreciated. Thanks.

The only thing I'd wonder about is the exhaust pipe size of an 8kW generator. The Gen-Turi kit fits "exhaust pipes with an outside diameter of 1", 1Ľ", 1⅜", 1˝", 1⅝", 1ľ", and 2". Adapters required for 1Ľ", 1⅜", and 1˝" are included. These will accommodate most installations. Adapters required for 1", 1⅝", 1ľ", and 2" may be purchased separately." -from Amazon entry.

If you're the least bit handy there are many internet entries on home built systems made from plastic pipe, gutter downspouts, and other clever adaptations that cost a fraction of the real thing.

Extension to top will get you above the roof line. Basic kit comes with adapters but really depends on the tip installed in exhaust pipe or remove tip.
I just brought the 90 degree sweep to my local muffler shop and had them swedge expand the factory sweep of Gen-Turi to fit over my chrome exhaust tip.

Hey Steve,

I just went through this with my 2006 Camelot PDQ AND 8KW generator.

1) My Gen-Turi came with three plastic pipe sections that slip together to form the vertical stack. It is plenty tall enough to get the exhaust about the roof line.

2) My generator had a factory installed chrome tip that had a slight down turn. It was necessary to remove this in order to use the Gen-Turi. This was an easy task because the tip was only fastened with two small sheet metal screws. The Gen-Turi came with a short adapter that was designed to replace the chrome tip. The adapter utilizes an exhaust style U-bolt to hold it on.

3) The Gen-Turi adapter is ugly but functional.

4) The proprietary Gen-Turi suction cups failed to stay stay affixed when I was at Quartzite.

5) I learned from Harry and Perry at Quartzite, the following:

Purchase a chrome tip that "straight", without the slight bend.

I used the Gen-Turi U-bolt to attach the new chrome tip.

Go to an exhaust shop and have them flare the Gen-Turi pipe so that it will slip over the new chrome tip.

Purchase some heavy fit suction cup tools to replace the weak Gen-Turi suction cups.
(I bought Rigid Brand at Home Depot)

This set up works amazing and looks factory.

Thanks to Happycars and 10 Boomer for sharing their vast knowledge

Hope this helps,

Jim

Rigid brand suction tools are much larger than proprietary suction cups.

Hope this helps,

Instead of using any type of suction cups on the side of the coach I simply removed 2 of the window frame screws and put a piece of small chain under each screw that I and hook the bungee type cord to. I just leave these in place so I can put the Gen-Turi on when needed.

Get the Gen-Turi. As stated, you’ll probably have to remove the existing if it turns down but that’s an easy fix. I use suction cups from Harbor Freight and move it between generator or Aqua-Hot depending on which I’m using. Helps keep the neighbors happy.

Ivylog has info in this link - RV.Net Open Roads Forum: Class A Motorhomes: My $12.00 Genturi

Used a drainspot and a suction cup from Wal*Mart to do it for less than $20.

Works for me,

One of my "gotta get it dun" projects..
Have to direct the exhaust on the gennie to the rear a foot so the vertical tubing will clear the window awning and nearly the same for the AquaHot to dodge the awning brackets for the slide out..

If your genset is mounted on a slide under the front of the coach (like most of ours), remember to remove the Gen-Turi pipe/adapter from the genset pipe before sliding the genset out.

You can probably guess why
