Generator and Fuel

Hey Everyone

Found a need to run the generator more frequently due to the very hot weather and the need for 50 amps to run the AC. (Only 30 amp on our site). Wondering if anyone knows how to determine the fuel consumption of a generator under full load?

Thanks,

It is probably in your manual or online @ onan cummins...

whatever it is - if it's needed it's needed

I was working inside in full sun on Saturday and I had it going with all three ac's on for about 8 hours and guessing it used less than a 1/4 of a tank ???? about 1 gal/hr ?

the genny will stop running once the fuel gets to about a 1/4 of a tank so you can go get some more fuel !

The owners manual for our coach states the following fuel consumption for a 12.5KW Onan generator:
No Load: 0.1 gallons per hour.
Half Load: 0.7 gallons per hour.
Full Load: 1.3 gallons per hour.

We have the Onan 12.5 and that's what our manual says too.

But, the OP should be able to run at least one heat pump or air con on a 30 amp setup. Our '02 DSDP had two 13.5 heat pumps and we regularly ran them both on 30 amps. In fact that was why I specifically ordered the 13.5's.

Thanks Everyone,

Great info to have. The Camp Host noticed we were running our generator and thought there may be an electrical issue and graciously moved us to a 50 amp site. Had to break camp and setup late but well worth it!

Interesting, my variable throttle 8K is less efficient than the constant throttle 10K.
