Took the Ambassador to Branson this week. I always make the round trip without filling the fuel tank until we get home. This time, because of the heat, we ran the generator for the front A/C and used the dash air all the way there and back. The generator quit about 15 miles from home this afternoon and I immediately suspected the fuel tank level had dropped below the pick up line for it. My understanding this occurs at the 1/4 tank level. At the time my fuel guage showed a little above a quarter.

I took the time to completely fill the tank, which was 64 gallons. The generator started right up. I know this is not an exact science but it seems with 36 gallons left the cut off was a little premature.

I know the answer is fill up before I get that low if I need to run
the generator, but I was wondering if my experience is consistent with any of you Monaco owners who have had this happen.

I had the same problem with our 07 Knight. I had a leak around the weld that holds the drain plug in so I had to drain the tank to fix it. Before I put the fuel back in I pulled the two gen tubes out of the tank, this is easy to do since they are both outboard on the drivers side of the tank and you do not have to drain the tank to work with them. When I refilled the tank I kept checking to see when the tubes touched the fuel. It took 22 gal. but the bigger problem is they are on the end of the tank so if you have a tilt to the other side it probably takes more fuel to keep the tubes sumeraged. The tubes are plastic. What I did was take 3/8 steel brake line 4 inches long and pushed over the end of the plastic tube about one and a half inches. It is a real tight fit and is air tight, you need no clamps. You also need to put an angled but at the bottom of the tube just like the plastic tube has. It is a fairly easy job that you can do in less than an hour.If you have the 100 gal tank, every inch you come up in the tank equals about another 6 gal so every inch you extend the tube gives you that much more to run on. So I extended mine 2 1/2 inches I fiqure I have another 15 gal to run on. Hope this helps I am not real good at explaining things when I am writting them down.

Thanks for the link MonacoMama this has been a problem for 4 years and now I know how to fix it. I think the dog was pretty mad the time it shut off in a store parking lot. Thank god it was only off for a few minutes . Taught us a lesson.

Thanks, MM, should have known this had been covered ad nauseum before. But, I do like bborc's idea. When it cools down to the 90's next week I'll take a look at it.

I HATE July and August in Oklahoma. Spent 4 weeks in northern Minnesota this summer and only came back because of an impending grandchild. First grandson, after 3 girls, so have to be here for that.

Our gen ran out of fuel the other day when the guage read slightly above a quarter tank. After jumping on the highway the guage dropped just below a quarter tank so you can trust the guage to be dead on accurate.
