Generator quit workinng

While at a rest stop in Alabama on the way to Gulf Shores, we heard an engine rev. We both wondered what it was but thought it might have been a passing semi. We get on the road and it starts getting warm. No house ac. We try to restart and it revs then quits.

I pulled the codes and got I think 2. One was 22 (overload) the other was I think 25 or over speed.

22 made me think I should flip the gen ac breaker and see if it would run, it doesnt.

25 made me RTFM and it said it could be air bubbles in fuel and to prime. I will try that in am. Overspeed matches what we heard as well.

I made it to Gulf Shores but the Cummins shops in AL close around 5 so no answer.

Anyone have any tips or pointers or repair shop recommendations?

Thanks!

What's the current fuel level , anything less than a 1/3rd. is questionable for the gen set to get fuel.

Steined,

You are not alone in doing this, but either post what specific genset you have, or the coach. Both is usually better.

Hard to offer advice when we don't know what you have. Suggest putting the coach in your signature so you don't have to remember to do it.

It will not run with no loads. It will run full tilt with ac breaker off while start button is depressed and shutoff immediately upon release of the start button.

I tried with the remote connection removed, no dice. Good idea though!

That era had problems with the harness connector in the generator compartment. Some units would start on their own. I think it was a moisture issue. The harness connects the inside switch(s) to the generator. Just for quick test, disconnect the connector and start it at the generator. Maybe you will get lucky.
I am not an expert on this, and just a thought from past posts.

Well Cummins in Mobile, AL said the magnets let go and destroyed the stator and probably the "inverter" (electrical not physical damage to it) when it went. Around 5k to repair if the inverter was needed, 3500 if not. I have 5100ish hours on the gen and it just let go when we were stopped. No warning signs.

I decided to get a lower hour unit out of a RV bone yard. If they don't offer me anything reasonable for my generator I'm going to make it a project to rebuild on my own time and maybe sell it.

The Cummins in Mobile was very friendly and helpful. While they didn't make a repair for me. I can say i would return if I had something else go wrong. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!
