Getting a little nervous about trip.

We are preparing to depart on our trek from Nashville to Mt Rushmore then Yellowstone and down to Grand Tetons.

First time driving the beast (affectionately) in mountainous areas.

90 to Rapid City SD.

We are staying just outside of Rushmore off 16 then our route has us going back to 90 to continue on towards Cody Wy but has us leaving 90 at Buffalo and taking 16 to 20 to 14 into Cody.

Anybody see anything we should be concerned with in this path?

From Cody we head to Moran and the planner has us going through the park on 14 to 191 seems like not a fun drive in a 39' with a JKU on the back.

Any thoughts on this path?

Help belay my fears please.

Thanks.

Haven't been that route for some time but is beautiful. They were widening the road from Cody to Yellowstone but it was still okay for our 36' with toad. Some good hills but nothing that caused concern.

Check your atlas and look at a couple of different routes. 90 takes you through the Bad Lands and Wall Drug which are interesting. Cody has lots to do and see. Sites were a little tight for big rigs.

We've stayed in Cody, Yellowstone at the bridge park but understand it is closed this year for renovation, North Gate (Gardner) and in West Yellowstone. All were good.

Recommend Northern route there and back thru CO to Estes & Rocky Mt Nat Pk - it is worth it. Into KS and visit Dodge City and then back home.

Take your time and enjoy the trip.

Oh, just watched Yellowstone Live and the park is looking great - wish I was going this year.

Drive Safe - Richard

Send a message via ICQ to Ivylog
I’m using the same route in Aug with a bigger rig and I’m not worried it...been there before. 14A is not recommend in a MH.

From Cody to Yellowstone to the Tetons is an easy drive. Once your 200 miles down the road from where you leave, the jitters will go. Enjoy!

Wow! Sounds like a great trip. Just take it slow and don't go down the hill any faster than you went up.

I would be more concerned with spare parts (fan belt, fuel filters, ect) and what tools to take than the route.
