Getting a Sleep Number Bed?

Hi,

We are considering getting a Sleep Number Bed installed in our 2006 Monaco Camelot. I realize this is an expensive proposition, so I would welcome any Pro's and con's, And especially, who/where to go to to get this done. Obviously air hoses and connections need to be installed , etc.

thanks! Don Schager

I'm with southernboy. Our HR came with one and I've never liked it. Could never find the right number, hated the central divider (made spooning impossible) and always woke up uncomfortable. Bought a memory foam topper this winter and am finally comfortable.

I agree! We have one in our 07 Vectra, and my side doesn't feel the same as his side...plus our air pump is LOUD...can't fill your side if the other half is sleeping. At home we have a tempurpedic, and love it...give me a memory foam mattress any time over an air bed.

I guess we are all different. I think our Sleep Number mattress is great. One of the reasons I dislike going back to the stick and brick is that we do not have one there. Cannot hear the air pumps running when we are laying in bed.

Like the Princess and the pea I guess. Everyone does need something a little different in a mattress. That was what what Select Comfort was trying to solve. In our case it works.

There is a competing air system out there. Perhaps that is the noisy one. Our Select Comfort only has a slight click every time the pump activates.

Ours was purchased by the previous owner, but records show it was installed at Camping World. They seemed to do a good job, but their quality of work is veritable from location to location. It is possible to do it yourself easily if you have an available 110 vac source.

Beside to deflate substantially before mountain travel.

We thought a Select Comfort was going to be the ultimate bed for us and got one for our bedroom. Initially, it seemed better on my back, but eventually we came to dislike it. We replaced it with an 18" thick very good quality pillowtop mattress which we've had for years and love.

We shopped for a similar pillowtop mattress for the RV and found one we liked. We find very little difference between the house mattress and the motor home, except the size, queen vs king. We sleep great on both.

I bought a sleep number bed about 12 years ago, thank goodness they had that money back guarantee because I sent it back in less than two weeks. Just no way to get comfortable. I had thought that since I had been sleeping on regular air beds for the past 15 years that the sleep number would be great, how very wrong I was. It was a beautiful bed, but the pillowtop and the divider just didn't make me happy. You see, I have a very bad back and while a Coleman or Areobed was great for me the sleep number left me hurting every morning.

Now, skip ahead a few years and someone on this forum mentioned an Airbed by a company called Bear Beds. So I found the website (Americana Bear Beds - Home of the Teddy Bear Air Beds) and contacted them, I told the guy about my experience and the fact I didn't need the dual air chambers and he thought I would be happy with their Teddy Bear model with a single air chamber (special order). I ordered it and let me say to the person on here that suggested their products, THANK YOU!!!!

I currently am using the mattress in my home until I sell the S/B, it will move with me into the MH when I go full-time.

We took the factory mattress out and we installed a P2 sleep number. I have had back surgery on three discs, some times at home I have pain and go to the coach for a good night sleep. We have a expensive mattress in the stix but I prefer the SN more. I do not like the cheap ones that come in the MH from the factory's. I believe this (cheap) SN's that give them a bad rep. I like it also because it stays cooler to me. We also hid the pump under the bed and wrapped it loosely in a towel and it is very quiet. We can barely hear it run.

Everyone will have a different opinion on Sleep Number bed's. We have one in the home and honestly I could take it or leave it. I could sleep on the floor and be fine. Once I lay down on a flat object I'm asleep. In our new MH we took the Serta Perfect Sleeper upgrade and we love it.

Best thing to do is go to a sleep number retail store and try it.

My only suggestion-get in writing that you can return it if you're not satisfied. We have a king sleep number in the stix and its good and a queen in the mh. We installed a memory foam topper on the queen and made it bearable, not great or not even good but bearable. Get a "I can return in 30 days or less" letter signed by a manager.

Its interesting that Sleep Number is about the only mattress you hear people returning.

You probably hear more about the sleep number because they allow returns and most traditional mattresses aren't returnable after they are slept on.
