Girard G2000 Awning Current Limiting Switch
Greetings All,
I have an issue with the front awning (I have two) not retracting all the way in. It stops about halfway. It is my understanding that the current limit box needs to be bypassed.
I contacted Girard Systems about the location and they told me that the manufacturer selected where the box was situated.
I need your help and feedback for a 2007 Monaco Executive and the possible location of this box. Our awnings are located at the roof passenger side.
Thanks for any feedback.

Probably inside the center cabinet above the windshield. There should be a false back to that cabinet, remove the screws and you will find a number of intellitec modules, the TV control and probably the Somfy control for the awning. There is a possibility of it being in the passenger side cabinet.
Have you used the switches to retract it or the wireless remote?

Do you have a switch in a cabinet that will operate the awnings ?
On my Windsor with a Girard awning I have a sw in the overhead
cabinet behind the passenger seat .
On the back wall of that cabinet there is a bump out that I can
remove , behind that is the controller .
The wires to the motor come through the wall at that same location
so if you don't find it there look near the end of your other awning .
These Girard awnings are 120v a/c so be careful .

hypoxia,
Thanks for the feedback. I do not have a wireless remote to my knowledge but that’s not to say that there wasn’t one. I use the switches in the cabinet above the entry door to extend/retract the awnings.
I will dig deeper in the cabinet above the copilot’s chair.

Ray D,
I appreciate the response and will thoroughly check out the entertainment cabinet above the copilot’s seat.

I would say Hypoxia’s location behind the TV is correct...found all kinds of electrical boards there when I replaced the TV. Unlike my 04 Dynasty, there is NOT a removable panel in the cabinet behind the passenger’s head hiding the Girard controller.

Not to complicate things, but ours were in the cabinet above the passenger seat. I was having trouble also and after removing the current limiters, knock on wood, I haven't had any issues since.

Ivylog,
Thanks for responding. I will check out that location. By the way I failed to ask what exactly am I looking for. Girard Systems informed me that there should be a current limiting board that I should bypass. What does this look like?
There was a poster (nsbeach) on this forum back in April 2013 who determined, along with a techie friend, that his particular coach did not have a current limiting switch/board. Instead he found and replaced a motor controller which was located in the entertainment cabinet. This was in a 2008 Monaco Signature.
Prior to replacing the motor controller a 7 mm allen key was used to retract the awning in a campground before getting the coach home.

Bill767,
Thanks for your post. I will dig into this area on our coach as well as behind the front center TV. The extend/retract switches, are above the entry door in a cabinet, that have wiring into the entertainment cabinet above the copilot’s seat.

Which model do you have (i.e. G1500, G2000, ?)?
My model does not appear to have current limiting protection (only thermal protection), from what I read in the manual. Also I see nothing about any additional electronics boxes needed/used - except the anemometer mounted on the roof.
Do you have the limit adjustments on your model?

CountryB,
In a few minutes I will be walking out to the coach and will look for what you attached. By the way, I also need to locate any documentation I may have on this in my binders.
I asked Girard Systems about the use of the 4 mm Allen key and was informed that this adjustment is to make 1/4 turns to ensure the awning is flush against the side of the coach. One way is moving in and the other way is moving out.

( " Our awnings are located at the roof passenger side. " )
quote
My awning is mounted on my slide , does your quote above mean
that your awning is not ?
My controller is on the inside , the motor is outside adjacent to each
other .
The logic is probably to keep the wire as short as possible and keep
wire movement with the slide at a minimum .
The wind anemometer on the roof is above this area it's wire has to
be routed along with all the others to make its way into the slide .
My controller and current limiter are small plastic boxes , located
right behind the switch .

Zackman do you have the wiring diagram for your coach? The page for the front awning covers the 2007 Executive, Signature, Dynasty, Navigator, Patriot Thunder, Marquis and Imperial.
Your configuration should be exactly the same as mine. The cabinet above the passenger seat on mine has a panel with the Magnun Invertor panel, TV antenna panel etc. with 4 screws retaining it. I removed that panel this morning and the Girard Current Limiter was there in a putty colored 4" square box.

I should add that both the front and rear awning Current Limiter Boxes and front and rear Wind Sensor Boxes are in that space behind the Magnum Inverter control panel above the copilot seat. All are in plastic 4"X4" putty colored square electrical boxes.
This is on a 2007 Signature
