First off I have a 2002 Monaco Windsor 40PKDD.
I recently developed a leak from my roof and narrowed it down to the air horns so when I got up on the roof I discovered the brackets being made of pot metal had just fell apart so I have no choice but to replace them but I cannot figure out how to reach the mounting hardware on the underside of the cap without removing the cabinetry and first section of ceiling panel lot get at them. Has anyone else gone through this and if so what did you do? I could really use some help please.

My air horns are mounted on a separate panel on the roof. it would be quite difficult to remove the panel, as it is screwed down, then has about an inch of caulking covering the edges and horn mount bracket screws.
Sometimes a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do though.

I’ve seen the mounting style you refer to and I would be happy to remove that plate if mine were made that way compared to what I believe lies ahead. I’ve ordered a endoscope to try and see just how they are attached from the underside. There is a small access to the bare cap through the tv cabinet that hopefully I can feed the scope through far enough to reach the mounting area.

Can you post a picture, so we can understand what your dealing with.

My horns are mounted like Rays describes. There are two L-shaped brackets (per Horn) screwed to the roof that the Horn mounts to. The rear bracket has a hole in the center where the air hose comes through the roof and goes into horn base.

Do you still have the original center TV cabinet or has it been modified.

If it is original you may be able to reach it from the cabinet once the TV is removed. It would still be a stretch though.

Next option would be to try to go through the end of the drivers side overhead side cabinet, this is where my CD deck is located. You should be able to remove the trim pieces and take the front side panel out. This will give you limited access.

If this doesn't work your only option would take out the cabinet directly above the drivers seat. Monaco did use a lot of pocket screws which does make taking things apart and putting back together easier.

My air horns are on the left side above the driver. There is a cabinet right below them that houses the surround sound receiver and DVD player. I haven't looked but I suspect the horn mounting could be accessed through that cabinet.

This whole time I made the mistake of thinking they were correctly installed but last night I pulled off the 1” thick layer of silicone to find #6 self tapping screws were the only thing holding them on. There should have been 1/4” nuts and bolts as well as a tension plate securing the brass fitting For the air lines. This is the first time I’ve ever been happy something wasn’t done correctly. I’ve ordered a new bracket for the one that crumbled and I’ll use #10 self tapping screws to replace the smaller ones. If those lasted this long the larger ones should outlive me and the coach hopefully.

Those were my thoughts too but plywood and braces were in the way. I could barely fit an endoscope in there and was unable to feed it to the section where the air line goes through the roof.

The pot metal for the horns looks like they spent their life at the ocean but the rest of the coach really is in good shape. I was surprised when I saw how bad the one mount crumbled.

Looks like they put ~1/2" plywood in the fiberglass during construction. This at least gives you structure to screw to. Good to know.

Yes I agree. When my replacement mount arrives I will use #10 self tapping screws and seal it all up with Dicor 501. That should hold it another 20 years...
