Heating with aquahot

Hi All

I am buying a used Dynasty with aquahot and was wondering if I winterize the water system can I still use the aqua hot system to heat the motorhome?

Thanks

By the way, be sure to NOT rely entirely on blowing air thru the lines to winterize at least the portion of your hot water side of your system that includes the AquaHot, itself. The configuration of the water heating coils inside the AquaHot is such that compressed air alone does NOT guarantee that it will be fully protected. At least pump antifreeze through it, to your hot water low point drain, if nothing else.

When you go to winterize the fresh/hot water pipe make sure you pump plenty of anti-freeze through the hot water lines and NOT use air.

If it's not properly winterized you WILL be looking at a very expensive repair bill to remove your unit and install a rebuilt unit.

Don't ask me how I know.

If you are keeping the AH unit hot to keep the coach warm inside, the heat exchanger coil that produces domestic hot water will not freeze. I didn't winterize mine last winter even with temps in the high teens for weeks at a time. I did have one freeze failure in a joint in the area betwen the AH unit and the water tank so I will winterize if I need to stay in the cold again this winter.
I did use a IR thermometer on the water piles in the bay where the pump, filters, manabloc and water piping is. I was astonished to see that the temp in the walls was around 45 degrees but the temp on the floor was in the mid 20s! Many of the pipes are fastened to the floor in that area so I am going to raise them up on spacers and get a little air circulating around them. The AH has a heat exchanger in that bay to prevent freezing but it is fastened to the roof of the compartment over the Inverter and isn't able to heat the floor sufficiently.

I blew out my lines then did the antifreeze thing. I noticed that the Aqua Hot had about 1 1/2 gallons in it after I blew them out. So, be SURE and put in the antifreeze (better safe than sorry).
