Help with 03 Holiday Rambler

Our 34' Vacationer has an issue with power to the electric water heater. HR says no schematic available for coach wiring system. Power to breaker panel, and power to control panel, and power to outlet in the bay. No power to outlet where water heater plugs in under the sink. Technician thinks the problem might be in the plastic connector/coupler somewhere in the wall. Anyone know how to locate it? Steve

Is your water heater both propane and electric.

Is there a switch for both. Does the electric switch light up when you push it? If it lights up that means the 12 volt is working.

I have a 2002 Monaco Windsor. My coach has a separate 12 volt to 120 volt relay that activates the water heater. When I push the switch the light comes on showing that the 12 volt function is working. The switch sends 12 volt to the relay that closes the contact which then sends 120 volt to the water heater. If you are not getting power it could be a sign the relay is bad.

I also have an EMS system and the breaker that controls the water heater is on the distribution panel. If the above relay is bad the breaker won't trip and you will have power going thru it but power won't go through the relay.

On my coach the 12V/120V relay that controls the water heater is hidden behind the 50 amp Power distribution panel.

Mine is the same!

Help with 03HR

Thanks for the replays. Yes the water heater is both gas and elec., separate circuits for 12v and 120. Both switches show a red lite when engaged, still no power to outlet where water heater plugs in. Will check the relay. It does work on the gas/12v cycle. Pardon my ignorance but is a 02 Monacco coach similar in design to our 03 HR Vacationer ? Will assume so for now. Thanks for the input. Steve.

I'm not sure how similar our coaches our. The Windsor is the model under the Dynasty.

The 12 volt light coming on indicates you have the 12 volt circuit working, the relay could be your problem. You will have to find the relay to test it. If it is bad there should be numbers on the side telling manufacturer, model etc.

When I had problems with my EMS I found my relay and noticed one of the terminals had gotten hot. The original was rated for 15 amp, which is marginal for the water heater if you have low voltage coming in.

Good Luck, keep us posted on your progress.

HR water heater

We checked the relay, all good, 110 power coming out. Back to thinking about a connecter that's come loose and how to find it. Thanks for your info.

Since you have 120 at the output of the relay and because that output only goes to the receptacle that the heater plugs into I would bet on a bad receptacle or a loose wire on the receptacle. On most RV receptacles the wire connects by pushing it into a slot, they don't strip the wire and make a good mechanical connection. Have you opened the receptacle and check for 120 on the wire coming to the receptacle?
