Help with Carefree Omega 2 slide topper

Hi all,

One of my slide toppers lost all tension. I tried to get at the spring, but i'm stuck getting the spring mehanism out of the roller. Does anyone know how to get at it and repair or replace? It seems like it is stck on something preventing it from coming out any further

I just did my Omega 1, but looks the same
You will have to drill out the 2 pop rivets. I got my spring from Amazon and it came with new rivets and instructions.

CW had the spring in stock...I replaced it and put everything back together.

I installed the new spring - gave it 23 turns and got the bracket back in place with only 2 little scratches around the bracket mount area

When I then put the outer brackets in place and rolled it up and down a couple times - all was good. When in the window awning position and below - the spring felt strong (like hold on to the strap else it will slam against the slide).

I then put the cover on with the ~5 screws on the brackets on each end. After putting the cover on - when it is in the down position which covers the windows, there is hardly any spring tension. Then, push it up a little and it gets close to the slide wall - the spring tension is good - like before I put the cover on. I don't understand how this can be?

What am I missing?
