Help with hydraulic fluid dipstick

I was checking my power steering hydraulic fluid on our 2005 Endeavor this morning and I inadvertently completely unscrewed the dipstick from the keeper that is below the rubber stopper. The keeper fell into the tank so now I can't tighten the stopper. Should I take the top off the tank and try to fish the keeper out or just get a nut and washer and make a new keeper? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as we are camping, planning to leave in 2 days.
Thanks.

Try one of these, Lowes and Home Depot have them.

I would "fish the keeper out".... (pieces and parts in the tank certainly can't do anything any good)!

Would one of these help? :
18" Telescoping Magnet

Taking the top off the tank is a simple job, usually one bolt. There's probably a filter in there that's never been changed and should be. If it's like the reservoir on most heavy chassis it'll be a NAPA 1637 or Wix 51637.

I got the keeper out. It had slid down under the filter and filter plate so I had to dip out some oil, remove the filter and then reach in with my hand to find it. It's all back together now. Next time I'll know better than to completely remove the T handle.
