Just got the latest recall notice from Nocold. The previous recall for the temp sensor #R-010....Now it's the "GAS VALVE".
I have lost one MH 2003 Camelot to a Norcold fire!!! Now the replacement MH is in danger of another fire.
I am begging to think I am living and driving with a "BOMB ON BOARD"
HOW CAN THIS BE!!!!!

I wish mine would burn. Have it insured 100 grand more than I paid for it. HA

You would think it would save Norcold money if they just replaced all the faulty units with another brand. These recalls must cost a fortune in parts and labor.

What gets me is, they won't let you put the switch on, you have to take it to someone that's qualified and you STILL have to show them how to do it. Plus drive all over town to get it done. I had to be propane qualified to work on home heating but I can't work on the RV.

Larry, do you have a 1200LRIM? We had the cooling unit recall done. Norcold said they have to send 3 letters on each recall. I am never sure if its a new recall. Never have received a letter, just notified by fellow rvers. Really considering the Samsung 197.

Makes me glad my Norcold is a model 6131. Sixteen years and no problems...yet.

Mr. Swede, Yes...I have a 1200LRIMSS...S/N 8101372. Cooling unit S/N 8098739.
My 2003 Camelot caught fire Dec 12, 2009. I got a recall letter from Norcold Feb 2010. That was the only notice ever from Norcold...two months after the fire.
You are correct, the only way I get a recall notice is from iRV2 or fellow RVers.
My Norcold works marginally as of now like most Norcold's. One failure and I will install the Samsung 197.

You mentioned a gas valve recall. Is this something new as I've not heard of it before. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Yes...this could be a new disaster waiting to happen. Go to the Norcold website recall info. Check the S/N numbers on page 3 of the recall.

On the recall page this:
Quote:
If the serial number for your refrigerator model is within the specified range as listed below, the refrigerator’s gas valve needs to be remedied immediately.
and this:
Quote:
Contact a servicing Dealer/Service Center to arrange a service date soon. The gas valve in your refrigerator will be replaced at no charge.
were found under just the Smaller Gas Absorbtion Models section.

While it appears the gas valve issue is not a problem with other models, might be a good idea to double check to be sure. Can't rely on anything when it comes from Norcold.

They must love me I have received 4 letters and a direct call from them and they get same answers from me.
I have had the first recall done working fine for past 8 years do not need their faulty newer recalls and will only go with the Amish cooling unit when I'm ready for it.

I just went and checked my cooling serial number and while I was in the outside compartment I noticed a green solinoid????? looking device that has 2 plastic water lines attached to it. One plastic line has a female garden hose type fitting where it is attached to the green device. It is broken in pieces. We have a ice maker in our coach but never used it.One of the plastic lines that feed this green solonoid?????? is wrapped with insulating paper. The lines are only 3/8 diameter. There are also some electrical wires attached to it with female spade connectors. These are the numbers that are on it..Model 55--120v/60 hz.-20 W.....MOPD 150 psi....part # 618253. What is this thing?????

Thanks
Ted

That maybe the water switch for your ice maker it turns on the water when ice maker signals it. If you turned your water on to it, it will leak. There should be a shut off water valve on the line before it gets to the switch.
There sometimes will also be a small heat line wrapped around the water line feeding this switch. Hope this helps
