I seem to have a lot of play in the steering wheel of the HR, more than our previous RV did. I'm guessing that I can move the steering wheel 4 to 5 inches before anything happens. Is this fairly normal with Monaco?

No play noted in mine.Sounds as if the steering box may need a tweak of adjustment.

You have to see where the play is. U joints,Splines in shafts, Steering box. All work together. It may be a loose bolt on the shaft. 5 in is alot.
1/4 in. is about right.

You have a problem. I know because our previous coach had a lot of play and that was one of the things I liked about the Roadmaster. No play and drives like a car.

I won't say it... I won't say it... I won't say it. Arrrggghhhh... I can't stand it! I have to say it..."THERE'S NEVER TOO MUCH PLAY!!!!" (..there, I had to do it).
Oh wait, you meant in the steering gear-assembly. Oops.
I agree, it should be tight.

Since I have a similar problem but not as bad, does anyone know how to tighten the steering box? I haven't looked at it yet since I hesitate to crawl into the spiders where it is parked. I have adjusted a 53 Ford pickup (circulating ball type of steering box). Is it similar?
