Question How to add chlorine with no gravity feed

Just got a 92 Dynasty that has been sitting for a while. I would like to add chlorine to my fresh water tank and can see no way to do that. I've read several comments about having a gravity feed option and my coach doesn't have one. I have city water hookup and a valve to turn to fill the tank. That is it.

Before you hook up your hose to MH, dump a little chlorine down the hose then hook up hose and turn it on. Will mix with water in tank. Good to go. Be sure to use unscented chlorine.

ejeffas,

First of all welcome to iRV2.

Conect your hose to the water hookup first and prior to connecting it to the water source add chlorine to the hose. I wouldn't add the total amount of cholrine you plan on using all at once. After adding some fresh water disconnect and add some more.

I decided to incorporate an external whole house filter purchased at Home Depot by putting in line between the water source hose connection and the MH. Whenever I need to add chlorine for total sanitizing, I just loosen the top of the filter housing dump out some water and then add the chlorine. If I only need to add a little, I use the hose trick as mentioned.

You just need a 1/4 cup fill up tank and run through all faucets, showers and hot water heater to keep the smelly egg smell away. Let set a few hours than flush with fresh water. Remove your filter from whole house or one at your kitchen sink for water and ice maker.
If you had put in your hose you would cleaned that also.

I did the gravity feed in the hose by climbing up on a ladder and dumping it down the hose for several years but got tired of spilling chlorine on my clothes. I too purchased a water filter system then removed the filter and just added the bleach in the holder and then filled the tank.

Thanks y'all. Kinda what I figured, but now confirmed. I will trot myself down to the Lowe's or Home Depot (they are across the street from each other) and get a whole house filter. If I don't go that route, I will spill more bleach than I will ever get in the hose even with a funnel

I like to fill the fresh water thank 1/2 full before I dose it with bleach though.

Still, the re-placable cartridge filter whole house filter is the way to go.

NOTE: Remove cartridge before bleaching please.

We never use bleach. You have to flush it out before drinking and that is a waste of water and time. I use a half teaspoon of granulated spa chlorine with each full tank of water. This sanitizes the tank and water while still allowing the water to be drinkable. I add the chlorine to the hose before hooking up and then fill the tank. We use the tank water so that we are near empty for the trip back home. Other times I put the half teaspoon of chlorine in the empty filter cartridge and then fill the tank. That's even easier than putting it into the hose. By using the tank water on each outing, you are not having the water just sitting in there for weeks on end. Joe

AZloafer, that is good to know about spa chlorine. I am currently using bleach in the whole house filter I just got. Since this sucker sat for so long, I figure it really needs a good cleaning. I'll use the flushed water to clean other items. I also don't like wasting water

Well the DW uses peroxide instead of chlorine. One ounce for every ten gallons. Run it through your lines until you smell it. No taste and it dissipates after two hours so you don't need to drain the tank afterwards.

Picked up this tip at one of the rallies we attended.
