Now I know a 41.5 ft coach with a 400ISL is not going to get the greatest fuel economy, but I seem to have increased mine by approximately .5 miles per gallon. A couple of weeks ago I was parked in a rather unlevel site and had to place blocks under the coach and the jacks to level. For some reason I happend to look up at the fill pipe on the drivers side while putting blocks under the coach and could see that the fill pipe had been leaking diesel. On my coach the fill pipe is a two piece affair where the final fill is a metal pipe shoved into a rubber pipe and clamped in place so that the fuel cap then screws onto the metal pipe. In this case the pipe was shoved down far enough in the rubber pipe that the scrw on cap bottomed out on the rubber pipe and never actually sealed and I was leaking diesel . Loosend the clamps and moved the pipe out far enough so that the cap would screw closed and my fuel milage seems to have improved by over .5 miles per gallon.

a good tip, we should all look and make sure that our fuel tanks and filler necks are secure.

You might want to read this because I doubt that you were leaking that much fuel and if you were it was probably only right after a fill up.

That avatar is one of the professional drag racing cars I tune. It is the "Promod" class of cars with tubular chassis and carbon fiber bodies. I specialize in supercharged motors using methanol as fuel. These cars produce between 2700 and 3200 horsepower and run a quarter mile in under six seconds at around 240 mph. That particular car is from Finland and is the fastest car in Finland and one of the fastest cars in Europe.

You may be right about the mileage increase not being completely due to the leak as I only have 8K on the coach and am still breaking it in. I do know I had filled up the day before and when I found the leak the coach was tipped and fuel was running not dripping out . My fuel fills are almost level with the top of the tank so depending on the tilt don't know how much could leak out.

Hi Mike: I knew it was a pro mod but wondered if it was yours?? I am an old drag racer. Had an F/gas 55 away back in the late 60,s early 70,s. Went to Indy as a spectator for about 15 years . Still enjoy watching the drags on TV. People and times change. I just do not have the time to devote half of my life to a race car!
