HWH questions

Morning all -

On our 04 Windsor with air leveling, when I put it in travel mode the light blinks 5 times and then shuts off. The big red light above the side panels goes off saying it is in travel mode as well.

What I don't understand is the coach does not raise at this time. If it is lowered I have to manually raise it as well as get it correct from side to side.

I had a error light on the control box and looking through the documentation it said the unit was bad and it would need to be replaced. Hmm, not one to just give up I kept investigating and nothing good. I reached out to HWH twice for help. First was with questions and second was requesting costs for having mine rebuilt. Both requests are still out there with no response for 2 or more weeks.

I found a NOS control unit and got it in. Put it in and now the light still blinks, 6 times. Everything looks correct, but still no automatic raise.

Help?

When the HWH goes into Travel mode, it just opens the solenoids/valves on the HWH manifold to let the "ride height control valves" have direct control of (direct air path to) the air bags.

The RHC valves (usually two on the rear axle and a single on the front) are installed by the chassis manufacturer on the frame rail just above the axles - and are not a part of the HWH system components.

If the RHC vales are not adjusted correctly (or faulty) the coach will not be at the correct ride height in travel mode. Also, the HWH Travel solenoids could be bad and not opening as they should. I had three bad solenoid "coils" on my coach.

Here is a pic of how the ride height valve looks (may be slightly different for you coach, but operation is the same).

paul, download a 2000 air leveling system manual. this is what you need. just putting the system in travel mode will not always complete the raising procedure.

start the engine, let it build up to final pressure and spit off. then hit the travel mode. if that doesnt do it, release the park brake and maybe put it in gear.
anything that will activate the ride height valves.

check the connectors at the travel vales on the manifolds, for 12 volts, and a clean connection. a bad or loose connection will give you fits. try cleaning all your connections with a spray electronic cleaner.

and even then, having the travel light on doesnt mean you are ready to travel.
it only means you have disengaged the hwh system and the travel valves on the manifolds are turned on. at this point, the air flows directly thru the manifolds to

the ride height valves.
this is why the manual is so important. it goes thru the sequence of operation, as well as gives you steps to diagnose your problem.
if i can help. please feel free to text me at 1-602-549-3638 or email pfmaddox@att.net i will answer asap. i dont sit at a desk, so it may take a few hours.
