I have a 2005 Dynasty with a 400 isl. My hydraulic fan fluid is on the add mark. The fluid is red. Is it Dextron 3 or 4 or does it matter? Thanks in advance

It Dexron 3. Make sure the fluid is at operating temp before you check it

I believe there are 3 filters stacked in the resevoir tank for the fan/steering fluid. Does anyone have any more info on these as to how many, a part number, and changing procedures. Also length of service time between changing them out please.

05 dynasty diamond IV has external hydraulic filter about chest high on the left side (facing engine) just inside the engine compartment. There are no filters in the tank as far as I could find out. The reservoir is on the right side (facing engine) from rear. I replaced my filter last year and was told to use dexron 3 compatible fluid. I think they no longer make straight dexron 3 but do have a replacement for it...think they call it backward compatible. I found mine at Advance Auto.

Technically speaking, Dexron3 no longer exists. GM "let the copyright go" or whatever, there is no longer a standard. Fluid marked Dexron3 could be anything... Heck it could be cranberry juice!

Dexron4 or one of the other newer atf fluids will be a good choice.

Yes our coach has the 3 filter deal and they are Nelson 84101B and it does take 3, our coach had AW46 fluid in the tank. My friend has a 99 Exe and his has a screw on Hyd filter and a different type tank
I have been able to get Dexron III in our area at about all the auto parts stores.

If the fluid specified in your rig is AW46 then it's probably not Dexron III. It's hydraulic fluid. I bought my hydraulic fluid at NAPA. As I remember Costco has the AW46 in this area, I needed AW 32. I could have used AW46 but I would have had to drain and flush the system alsoi.

Monaco uses both AW46 and Dexron 3 in their hydraulic systems. AW46 is golden brown and Dexron is red. Since you said it was red then it is Dexron. I have discussed this with Monaco on numerous occasions and you can use either the AW46 or the Dexron and the big difference is the viscosity in the cold weather. AW46 can get too thick in cold weather and rupture the hydraulic cooler. I use Dexron 3 in my 2004 Sig with no problem. If you are just topping it up then match what you have. Wipe the dipstick on a white paper towel and if it is red the Monaco put Dexron 3 in it regardless of what the book says.

I have AW46 in mine, but you got me to thinking. Pour point of AW46 is -18C and Dexron is -48C. Lower Operating range for AW 46 is listed as -2C. It is quite a bit colder than -2C when I plan travel this winter, so a through preheat will be in order. Any other thoughts?

Jim, yes the critical time would be on first startup in the morning. Probably not too much pressure if the MH is not driven until it warms up.

Maybe a dumb question but I didn't see anything in my manual about filters or checking/replacing hydraulic fan fluid. I have a Cat and I'm pretty sure I have a hydraulic fan. Is this something I need to add to my maintenance list and if so what is the timing as to when to perform the maintenance?
