There are a few threads regarding the mismatch but, if I remember correctly, it's mostly an incompatibility with the heatpump reversing solenoid operation.

I sent Dometic an email with my Heat Pump model numbers and they said the new Comfort Control 2 (CC2) was not compatible. No additional explanation provided.
The advantage to the CC2 is the progammed thermostat modes.

What model heat pump do you have? On Dometic's Web site it shows both the Brisk II heat pump and Penguin II heat pump are compatible with the CCC2.
Brisk II,
Non-ducted models are available with ceiling-mounted air distribution box (ADB). Ducted models can be controlled with the Single Zone LCD thermostat or Comfort Control Center II.
Brisk II 15K BTU Rooftop Heat Pump - Dometic Corp
Penguin II,
The heat pump is thermostatically controlled by the Single Zone LCD thermostat or Comfort Control Center II (CCC2) in ducted applications. Both controls automatically activate the LP gas furnace or heat pump. The CCC2 can also control the Aquaheat floor system or Automatic Generator Start (AGS). In non-ducted applications, the Penguin II is available with ceiling-mounted air distribution box (ADB).

I'm not gonna rant...
I'm not gonna rant...
I'm not gonna rant...
I'm ... aww, forget it...
WHY? WHY? Why couldn't they ('they' being Dometic. Uhhh, the designers of the AC/heat systems?) design the newer units to be backwards compatible with the older ones? It's not like we went from antique all-analog to gee-whizz whoppee-digital all of a sudden, it's essentially the same concept. Just change the logic-levels or timing or whatever to match.
I gotta keep my fingers crossed that my current AC's & controller continues to work, or face a huge $$$-upgrade to retrofit.
Ok, sorry. It got away from me.

My heat pumps are 15m model 630516 Penguins. Two are original from 2007 and one is new from this year.

My experience: I recently replaced a 2004 Penguin with a new Penguin II. Penguin II's come with or without a new control box. The control box is separate from the AC unit and is accessible from inside your coach, just remove your ceiling grille. If your old control box is still good, you don't need to replace it - just hook up the wires to your new AC unit. If your control box is bad, be sure to order the correct new one. There is control box for the 5-button type thermostat and a different control box for the new Comfort Control Center 2 thermostat. When disconnecting an old control box, disconnect one wire (there are several) at a time and connect to the new control box. Also set the dip switches to match the old one.

I believe it is a "control board" and not a control box that you are referring to.
Just wanted to eliminate any confusion by new RVer's and anyone reading this thread.

It is a control board. However it is mounted inside a metal enclosure. When I upgrade to the 5 button from the 4 button the new control boards come mounted inside the metal enclosure. That's the reason it is called a control box.

I guess even the "old" RVer's can learn too!
It appears that Dometic has "improved" the design to their new HC A/C's.
Don't need to change out the entire box to the old ones, just change the board if it goes bad.
Thanks for the link to the control box.
