After having my Jeep stolen, I recently had my Suburban conveted to be towed. REMCO did not recommend using the drive shaft disconnect on the Suburban because of the length of the drive shaft. (Apparently they are prone to vibration). So, I went with the REMCO transmission pump. This thing makes me nervous about damaging my transmission. I would like to install an inline temperature guage in the line from the tranny to the pump under the hood. This would allow me to monitor the temp periodically. Has anyone done this? If so where did you find the guage?

Thanks,
RVSteve

Steve, the normal place to install a temp sensor is in the transmission oil pan.

RVsteve.......Put a unit in the trans pan as Mike suggested and run the wiring through your towing cable to the motor home. Install the gauge permanently in the motor home dash or make a temporary position where you could plug it in when towing and view it from the motor home's front seat.

RVSteve,
My experience towing my Buick "4-down" and using a home-brew tranny pump is this: there is virtually no heat generated within the tranny while in tow.

As you would guess, a tranny's temperature (when in actual service) is largely a function of fluid friction in the torque converter...along with temperatures conducted from the actual running engine. When being towed, the tranny is in neutral, so the fluid in the torque converter is not experiencing any shear forces, thus no heat is generated there. Gears turning within the tranny are also not under "load", so what little heat that is generated there is dissipated to the atmosphere.

Clearly what is important is that the tranny re-circ pump is running, actually pumping, and creating fluid pressure. I think (not sure) that REMCO has that "assurance" covered.
