Install Toilet on New Tile Floor

I'm planning to replace the flooring in my 2007 HR Neptune with ceramic tile. I'm not sure what to expect when installing the toilet on the new tile, which will be thicker than the old vinyl. I've done this work on home toilets where thicker wax seals are available. Does an rv toilet seal to the holding tank with a wax ring like a home toilet? If not, what problem will I face making the toilet to holding tank seal?

Barry, no the RV toilet only uses a rubber seal, sort of like a sponge but thicker. A wax seal will not work. The existing toilet may be mounted to a flange that is glued to the tank down pipe or it could be screwed to the floor. You should look for a flange extension if you can find one.

One poster used a dremel tool to cut the existing flange off (cutting on the inside) and then glued a new flange to the down pipe with the flange setting higher (flush or just above the floor).

In my coach the tile is set on top of 3/8 plywood which was placed on top of the chipboard main floor.

The following PDFs will show several toilets and parts and may be helpful.

Rex:

Thank you for the very complete reply. You've given me the info I need to picture the basic design of toilet to holding tank connections. At least I have a general idea of what I'll find when I take it apart - and what I'll face getting it reinstalled.
