Intellitec latching controller questions.

Hi all,
2003 Dynasty. Intellitec 10A latching controller on a Sureflo water pump.
It's labeled a 10A latching controller, and the pump label says max current 10A. And there's also a 30A relay between the latching controller and the pump.
Is there any reason to have a relay between the latching controller and the pump?
Seems redundant to me, and having that relay constantly energized is not a big load, but it is about 150mA that serves no apparent purpose.
Is the relay original or did somebody add it?
Also, the water pump switches have a little light next to them. Is that light supposed to come on any time the pump is turned on, or only when the pump motor is running? Mine never come on...

Mine also has the relay. Had to replace it (internals all crapped up). Also had to replace the lamp. It should be on when any momentary switch is used to turn on the pump.

I think the relay is there because the controller can't handle the amperage required. The controller started out as 7 amps.

The pump may draw in excess of the 10 amp on startup so the relay protects the controller.

Your light is most likely burned out. They are on when the switch is on. Not just when the pump runs.

Thanks all. I guess all the pump lights are all burned out. Not sure I want to bother replacing them...
I figured out why it has a relay. The Intellitec is a "low side" controller. So it controls the circuit on the ground-side (the "load" terminal is grounded to actuate the pump and would normally be connected to the neg side of the pump motor).
I found it in the wiring diagrams and the relay is original. So I guess they wanted to switch the pump on the pos side, thus the relay.
