Converter / inverter combo is 2 devices in 1 unit .

They do opposite things .

( 1 ) Converter -- takes 120 volts ac and turns it into
12 volts dc . This 12v supplies power to all your
12v needs .
The 120 v can come from the gen or plug in .
When there is no 120v then the batteries must
supply all the 12v power .
So in effect if you were plugged in or running the gen
you could remove the house batteries and the 12v
lights would still work .

( 2 ) Inverter -- takes 12v and turns it into 120 volts ac ,
operates tv , ice maker etc .

Do you have a rear elect compartment ?
It is probably on the curb side toward the rear .
A picture of that compartment might help someone
spot something .
