interminent slide out opperation

I just purchased 2004 executive 2 slide coach. Sometimes when I go to slide out the large slide it will not move. When this happens the gen will not slide out also. I checked the pump large wire and their was voltage.
When this happens if I come back in a few minutes to several hours things will work normal. This worries me to go out because what if the slide would not come in. Any hints as to where to check would be greatly appreciated. When this happens all the lights in the coach still work.

Where exactly did you find 12 VDC at the pump? There is a large solenoid attached to the motor case with a band clamp. There should current present on the wire between the solenoid and the motor when the switch is pressed.

When you press one of the slide switches, two things happen. Current is supplied to the motor which you are verifying. This current should cause the electric motor to run. One of the solenoids on the pump is energized so the correct pump valve will open causing the correct slide to operate. If the motor runs but you get no movement then the problem is the valve on the pump isn't opening.

With no switches pushed I get current to one side of the large solinoid. When the problem happens the pump will not run on either slide, room or gen. Question, if this would happen with slide out can I jump the solinoid like we did on the old fords and what makes the slide go in or out? Does the motor run backwards or does flow change in the valve for that slide?

1. You need to check if that large solenoid closes when the switch is pushed and current is present on the other side. Also make sure the ground points are cleaned up. If the solenoid closes and the motor doesn't run, then that is where you problem is. That electric motor is grounded through the case which could mean the problem is internal to the motor. If I were you, iwouldputina call to HWH tech support. They stay very busy and you will have to wait fora call back. The good news is that they are very good with troubleshooting and once you get a tech on the line, they will be of enormous value.

2. If the problem is the solenoid then yes, you can jump it.

3. The motor only runs in one direction and the pump only runs in one direction. The direction of the slide is controlled by which solenoid valve on the body of the pump is open.

Don't know your situation, but if you have the time available, you are one day's drive from Moscow, IA. HWH has water/electric spots available for customers. Those guys can go through your system and make sure you don't have a hidden problem. I hate the issues that are sporadic. Hard to track down and you don't know what's going to happen when you hit the switch.

Steve you said it. A new to us coach has enough gremlins lurking with out wondering if the slide will go out or in.
Thanks for the tips.

Well I went to study the pump area and check with a volt meter. The gen slide slid 6 inches and quit. After checking the gen switch it would go out but not in. When I pushed in the gen switch would not go in. So now with the slide out, I loosened the 1/4 nuts on the valves, pushed in the slide and tightened the nuts. Now the pump will run but the slide won't move out or in. Where did I screw up? I called HWH but they said it would be 1 1/2 weeks before a tech could call ( disappointed ). I called Monaco and the tech said the intermittent problem was probably the solinoid on the pump. This was before the slide not going out or in issue. Thanks for the help.
