Of course 5 hours after leaving for a 7000 mile trip, the cruise control decides to act up.Sometimes works, sometimes it don't. any ideas. 1998 HR Endeavor. AC control unit also died. Sitting in Camping World parking lot right now waiting for it to open. Fun start to this trip.

you dont say just what your CC problem is, but if its an intermittant " failure to engage". , use your toe to retract your brake pedal to make certain its not sticking, and thus "canceling"? the CC...rgr...

I had the same problem and found it to be the spade connector's on the brake switches ( it's two of them) in the Gen compartment was loose, I tightened them up with pliers and it solved my problem.

Finally stopped for the day. Time to take a look at this problem. Can you give me a little more detail about where the brake switches are and what they look like. I did call freightliner who told me that there is not to much a DIY'r can do with this and I should bring it in for a computer can.????

Evo I can tell you where it at on our coach, in the generator bay in front on the driver side where the foot brake is located is a air manifold and part of the foot brake there are two round flat sensors about the size of a silver dollar with two wires attached with nuts, there also is a round sensor about the size of a weenie and about 1 inch long and each has two spade connectors attached, pull these connectors one at a time and mash LIGHTLY to tighten the spade and reinstall. I hope this works for you, I had the same problem and worked on it for months before this solved my problem.

I just had my MH in to have the CC repaired, and they put it on the machine, and it told that the set button was stuck on set, thereby not letting the CC work. They replaced the whole directional lever switch. CC works fine now.

Walt,

Thanks for the help. I found the switches and checked them, but no luck. I have been calling freighliner dealers all morning, but so far no one can see us today. After 1200 miles my leg is getting a bit sore. After 7000 miles I think I may need an ambutation.

Please take no insult when I suggest that you insure your engine brake switch is not set.

Next:
- Is there evidence that the CC "system" has power?....such as a dash light that illuminates "CRUISE" when the CC is on. Is this light ON? If not: it's time to check the CC fuse.
- Also consider that any application of 12VDC to the RV brake-lights is the same signal that kills the CC. Place your "significant other" driving in a vehicle behind you with instructions to report whether the RV brake-lights are continuously ON or possibly flickering on occasionally. If this is the case, troubleshoot why the brake lights are being applied.

The brakes on the right side of my Knight get hot sometime when in stop and go traffic, when they get hot the right brake drags and the cruise will not work, also the directional chime does not work. I had it in the shop and they serviced and worked for a while. I was setting at the Canadian border at Sault Ste. Marie on the bridge in heavy traffic waiting to get into Canada stopping and moving for about an hour, brakes got hot and begin to drag. Got is serviced again when I got home, I think when it sets maybe something get a little corrosion. Has anyone else had this problem.

Ok This might sound a little crazy but yeah I kinda did "fix" it en route. All I did was follow the harness from the cruise control stalk under the dash board. The harness connects to a solid silicone contol module of sorts. I really do not know what the function is. It may be a resistor, a mystery box, a flux capicitor. I don't know. Anyway I unplugged the harness from both sides of the flux capacitor and reconected them securely and the problem went away. Must have been a bad connection or something. I am just happy that it worked. BTW driving a class A with no cruise for a long time really Stinks!!!

montiem, now that evotech seems to have his CC problem solved, I'd like to suggest that brake heating and dragging is a dangerous condition. And "no", the RV sitting for awhile should not present a problem with the brakes. When you say you had it "serviced", what did the technicians do?

I took the coach to the Mack dealership next door to our office and they cleaned a part on the caliper and greased it I think. I usually trust these guys for everything since they are close and work on heavy trucks all the time. I have not had any trouble for the past 1500 miles or so.
