keeping house batteries charged

Is there anything wrong with using a 120v plug in a hanger to keep the house batteries charged when the coach is not being used?

For best battery performance and life, you do want to make sure your converter has a modern battery storage maintenance mode. That means that it will keep a full charge on the battery without overcharging it and will implement a sulfation inhibiting technique.

You might also want to look at bypassing the isolator between house and engine batteries so both are maintained properly during storage.

Try to avoid converter or battery maintainers that do only float or trickle charge. For instance, look at what the Battery MINDerline does in contrast to the Battery Tender or what the Progressive Dynamics ChargeWizard or Iota converters do.

When we first "hit the road" part time I used a 120 volt "Battery Minder" or "Battery Tender" (Both Trade Marked) to keep the batteries full on charged.. When I went full time I used one on the towed.. Really extended the battery life on the beast.

I still use one... but for other batteries, not for the MH and the towed is gone to that big auto graveyard somewhere near Detroit.

I use one of these and unplug my converter. Battery Tenders do not desulfate.
