I looked for some info on this and found none.
Is there a right way to do this.
When you get to a camp site and the DVR has been disconnected for some time,do you power it up and wait for a while before you turn on the dome to find the sat.
Direct TV no H/Dif.
The reson I asked is last week when we got set up,it never did gat a signal,NO trees,I waited for 2-3 hours.
I then ran a cable to my friend next site over,he had a signal, connected it to by DVR and the picture was there, now the problem,I disconnected his and plugged mine in and the picture was there?????

We have to push the reset button each time power is disconnected from the DVR (DirectTV), otherwise it will reboot and such but there will be no picture. The reset button for ours is next to where one inserts the card, behind the small fold down door.

rvtips.....I have a KVH dome, but I do the following....I turn on the DirecTv box and the TV. I wait for the screen to say..."Searching for Satelite". Once I get that message, Iturn on the dome and let it search.
Occasionally, if it doesn't locate a sat, I'll turn off the dome, hit the reset on the DirecTv box and follow the above procedure again.
I found if I started the dome first, I would never find the sat.
Good Luck

rvtips...let me just verify a few things. You do have...

a Kingdome
activated DirecTv
a DVR
with NO HD activated[/list]You could NOT pick up a signal. You then cabled to your DVR from a neighbor's & got a picture. When you disconnected from his and connected your cable- you still DID have video?
I just wanted to clarify so that others know for sure what they are responding to...

The only way to get my King Dome and receiver to work is to do the following:
Turn on the King Dome and wait for it to stop making noise (spinning). When this is done I turn on the receiver. Only very seldom will I have to press the reset button.
If I turn it on receiver first it seems to choke somehow.

I don't think I tried it that way, because when I called King Dome, the tech said the Dome needed power from the DVR to get a signal ??

I use the same procedure as Diplomat Don:
Turn on the DirecTv box and the TV, wait for the screen to say..."Searching for Satelite", and then turn on the dome and let it search. Works every time.

When we had the dome, we did same as above. Without the receiver being on, it would not lock onto sat. Also had to hold switch for approx 3 seconds until it began a solid search..If you have moved out of one of the logitudinal areas, may want to reset the region. It is in the owners manual how to do this..
9702 Series
The King-Dome Automatic - Classic will have you watching TV at the touch of a button. Just park and push a button to automatically lock onto the correct satellite within minutes.

Many folks call the dome that they have a King Dome when, in fact, King Dome makes the King Dome automatic, King Dome manual and (most importantly) the Trac-King for in-motion. Each of these units operate differently so you should clarify which of these units you are having problems with and which you are talking about when you respond.

I have had some of the same problems. Here is what I found. If you are using a King Dome Automatic it does not have to be connected to any receiver to find a satellite. The Satellite sensing circuit is all in the dome. So when you press the search button for 4 seconds the Dome will do a self test and then lock onto the first DirecTV or Dish Network satellite it finds. Of course this may not be the one you want. So at this point you will need to have the TV and Receiver turned on to tell if it the correct one. If it isn't then you press the search switch for 1 sec to look for another satellite.
Sometimes if the Receiver is the process of starting up and does not find a satellite when it goes into the downloading data phase it will go blank until it can get the data downloaded. I would think that when you plugged in your friends satellite the receiver finished downloading data and then when you plugged your satellite back in it was now on the correct satellite. I believe you can reset your receiver by pressing the red button next to the smart card which is behind a door on the lower right of the receiver. If this does not work you can unplug the receiver and force it to go back through the startup process.
As Bill said since I don't know which Dome you have, I am assuming you have the same King Dome as I do.

A friend of mine is having similar problems to this thread. He said he is doing what this thread recommends but mostly ends up getting a picture on one channel but not able to change channels. Has anyone else seen this?
