I have some friends who just discovered a cracked (2 pieces) frame on their 04 40' Knight. They are pretty sure it's related to their trailing arm failure. Has anyone else experienced this problem, and is it worth pursuing with the new Monaco?

From what I've read on this forum the new Monaco won't do anything to help your friend. Hope your friend has an extended warranty due to the expense of fixing the trailing arms. Do a search for trailing arms cracks and you will see what I mean.

The Monaco that built it no longer exist so there is no way they will get anything by going that way. They are on their own for the cost of repair.
Have them go here:
Trailing Arms Cracked on Roadmaster
Are you sure their problem isn't the trailing arms that are cracked rather than the frame?

The new Monaco is selling a replacement arm kit that fixes the problem. They would have to buy it but it is available.

Thanks for the quick responses. My friends have replaced the trailing arms twice. 1st with the recall part, then when the much stronger version came out, they replaced them a 2nd time. They just discovered that the entire frame rail on one side is broken in half, and the back half moves independently from the front. They have taken it to Spectrac in Phoenix who specializes in Trk & M/H suspension, and were told it is UNREPAIRABLE, due to inaccessability. A second opinion from another RV repair facility, with the same result. No extended warranty, and Progressive denied their claim. I was hoping against hope that someone would have some sort of direction for them to pursue. These friends are full timers, and depend on their Knight for not only living quarters, but to travel to workkamping jobs. So sad that such a huge defect in manufacturing is able to happen with no accountability. Shame on the new Monaco and Toolson!

Are you saying the main frame rail cracked? Somewhere near the rear suspension?

Yes, one of the main frame rails is cracked and separated. My friends are parked in Glendale, AZ approx. 200 miles from where I am in Lake Havasu. I don't have any pictures or I would post them. I just visited the Monaco web site, and watched Kay Toolson's 8 second video in which he states "we'll take good care of you" if you purchase a Monaco. I know Navistar separated themselves from previous owners like myself, and my friends, but in a severe case like this, there should be some recourse.

I would be surprised if there was a place that you couldn't access to weld on the frame. It might take work removing compartments wall etc,.. then you could add gussets and weld the frame back together.
Anything can be fixed with enough money

Was this crack possibly caused by towing a heavy trailer? And nothing to do with trailing arms?

Seems like the body needs to be raised and then the repair can take place.
A lot of work and money, but what other choice do they have? This is really a sad situation.
