Kohler generator fuel shut off solenoid

I ended up frying some wires on the diesel Generator of my 94 Monaco Executive when I wasn't aware remote switch in bed room stuck in on position after a start. Have since changed the complete engine harness. Fuel shut off solenoid still works, but at times requires several start tries before the "hold" function of it works. Generator is by Kohler powered by a D905 Kubota engine (serial #368431) numbers on old solenoid are unreadable, internet search listed Model #1503ES-12A5UC5S, PN #17454-60010 as workable on D905. Unit arrived and will fill ok (3 wire, red, white, black), but the black and white wire positions are reversed in electric plug of the new unit (red is same)also plunger on old unit will retract when black and white wires are connected to 12V source, a short occurs when this done with the new unit, can't get the plunger to retract with any combination of corrections. (unit was purchased new from AliExpress, may have come from China) I don't know if I have the wrong or a bad solenoid or combination of both.
