Has anyone had the Kongsberg brake recall performed? Does anyone know specifically what the problem is and how to inspect and monitor the brake pedal assembly to make sure a failure doesn't occur?
This recall is pretty large and covers many different vehicles, RVs and large trucks, but I am surprised how little information is available. Have there been any failures that have caused accidents?
On top of all this we are trying to figure out how folks like us with the faulty brake assembly but not on the Navistar recall list get notified and get the fix. Monaco Tech support says Kongsberg will get in touch with us but I am not sure how they even know we exist.

I got the same answer from Monaco Tech Support, Kongsberg would get in touch. I figure that in 3 months since the recall was initiated that they'd be able to tell me something, so I sent an email to Kongsberg Power Products with my MH info and asked for an update as to when/where the recall would get performed.

I have the part and the instructions on how to install the fix and will send details later today after I install it. Note I signed a waiver with Monaco and they sent me the part. Will send photo of part along with installation instructions later.

OK I looked at my brake pedal and am now of the opinion that mine is not one that has been recalled, even though they listed the 2009 Contessa as one and Monaco sent me a recall notice. Does anyone have a list of the part numbers or serial numbers for the brake pedals being recalled? My brake pedal part # is 87025-001 and the serial number is 08014010011.
Thanks

Here's a copy of one of the announcements I found on the web--I make no claim that it's the only announcement or that its complete (i.e., there may be other announcements with other P/Ns):
SAFETY DEFECT/NONCOMPLIANCE NOTICES RECEIVED DURING DECEMBER 2009 Published January 7, 2010
EQUIPMENT:
Kongsberg Power Product Systems I, Inc. (KPPS) is recalling certain adjustable brake pedal assemblies, P/Nos. 6562618, 6565118, 77025-001, 77025-002, 77025-501, 77050-004, installed as original equipment for use on various heavy-duty trucks. Some assemblies could contain a drive pin that is below specification and may become disengaged from the brake arm causing separation or loosening of the pedal from the remainder of the assembly. If the drive pin becomes disengaged on the brake pedal assembly, it could result in a loss of vehicle braking function and/or cause the brake pedal to interfere with the throttle pedal function. Either condition could result in a vehicle crash. Each vehicle manufacturer will file a defect report and remedy plan for their vehicles, which included these adjustable brake pedal assemblies as original equipment. KPPS is working with the vehicle manufactures to identify vehicles that may contain the defect. The affected vehicles will be repaired free of charge. The safety recall began on December 9, 2009. Owners may contact their vehicle manufacturer or KPPS at 1-610-454-9955.
Ken How hard was it to see the P/N on your brake pedal assembly?
Pat

Just found out today that my brake pedal was not part of the recall. Part number I listed in earlier comment 87025-001 maybe 67025-001 hard to read but verified with Monaco mine was not recalled. To read the part number I had to move the pedal out towards the seat all the way and then push down on the pedal to read the tag on top of the arm portion attached to the shaft. I've attached a picture of my brake pedal and you will note the end of the shaft to which the pedal is attached is silver in color, per Monaco it needed to be a black plastic cap for it to be part of the recall.
I'm attaching a couple pictures of what the part looks like that was to fix the defect and will send separately the pdf with description and pictures of how to make the repair to anyone interested. If someone can tell me how to attach the PDF file I will do that. As you can see from the pictures its a no brainer when it comes to installing the part. Monaco didn't want the part back and I have no need for it so I'll send it to the first person that asks for it and needs it.

To All,
I discovered the same situation as Ken - our assembly is not part of the recall even though Monaco said it was. I went to a local Freightliner dealer and got a drawing of the brake pedal and the fix being installed and then compared it with my assembly - not the same. My part number is 87025-001 just as Ken's, which is not one of the recalled numbers. (The part number is on the top of the collar at the top of the brake pedal arm. I used an inspection mirror to read.)
Here is a file with information I got from Freightliner - THIS IS ONLY FOR THEIR PRODUCTS - but it shows the problem and how they are fixing it. The "C" clamp Ken pictured does the same thing as the part on this drawing.
Kongsberg Brake Recall (Freightliner).pdf
Here is a picture of the top of my brake pedal which is different than the recalled assembly.
For all the lawyers out there, I have NOT verified that the information I am giving applies to ANYTHING but my coach but it might help others figure out if they have a problem. For information the NHTSA says this recall may apply to over 12,000 vehicles.
I am breathing easier.
Lew

I contacted Kongsberg directly. They were VERY NICE about the whole situation and glad I called. They stated they have no way of knowing who has the bad assemblies, especially in Monaco coaches. They shipped me a recall kit free of charge.

Just received my "KPPS Adjustable Brake Pedal" recall letter from Kongsberg. Not a word in the letter about affected model numbers. It does offer a free "Clamp Assembly Kit" and $20 to install it yourself, or $32 if you have someone install it for you.
