Wayne,

We just took a 500 mile road trip in the H3. It was great, nothing like my old Wrangler that beat you up. All in all the H3 has served us very well. Sounds like you feel the same about yours./

Phil

We pull a 06 Chev. Silverado Z-71 extended cab with a fiberglass topper behing a 07 HR Imperial. Yes it does affect the acceleration but with the cruise set at 60 I have to keep an eye on the monitor to check it is still there. I agree the Jeep is a great vehicle to pull but lacks the comfort. I had a CJ7 , it was fun in the summer but cold in the winter and would beat you to death with the flapping top and doors.

Our Outlooks weighs in at 4,700 pounds. I've been managing 8.5 on the interstate at 62 mph. Like Oh-one I have to check the rear camera to see that it's still there. It slows the take-off a tad but I expect that. I haven't had the chance to challenge the mountains out west yet, it's down well in the hills of North Carolina and Tennessee.

I occasionally tow my 05 Dodge CTD 4X4 quad cab 3/4 ton truck with (2) 4X4 Kawasaki Prarie 350 ATV in the back. Runs about 9200lbs fully loaded. From Sacramento to Moab and back, averaged 7+mpg. On the flat I could make 8+, but going up the hills, it was 3+. Sometimes I envy those guys back east. Seems like I run up to 7500ft every time I leave town.

That's the price you pay for that kind of scenery.

Our 04 Tundra weighs in right at 5K. I started out towing it behind a gas coach, 460 ford with banks system. It did OK. Behind this one with 350 Cummins ISC, no problem. Very comfortable, reliable truck. We like the full 6ft bed that you don't get on some of the other small crew cabs. Wish Toyota could have put a nuetral in the transfer case so I didn't need the drive shaft disconnect, but after almost 5 years it has been fine.

Thought I'd follow-up. The "short" list was the Dakota, the Toyota Fj and the new Jeep 4 dr.
We ended up buying the '09 Jeep Sahara Unlimited. Be awhile before we can hit the road again, but for the time being, we will be much more comfortable driving our toad. Thanks again to all that responded! John

Maybe comparing apples to oranges but we have the little sister to your rig, an 05 Ambassador with the 8.3, 330HP Cummins. We tow a 4700 pound Acadia and I get between 8 and 8.5 mpg very consistently. Not towing I get between 8 and 8.5 mpg. Go figure. I do notice it some on steeper inclines but for the most part it tows no differently than the 3100 pound PT Cruiser we used to have.

We tow an 07 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab 4WD with no problem. We had to replace our tow bar with a 10k lb Blue Ox though.
